Fiat offer good buy back deals on new 500s. Its keeping their prices high.
If you are planning on keepin the car a while I would go with the Fiat and ask if they will extend the warranty. Also worth asking if there any demo versions or pre-registered ones they want rid of.
    Good luck whatever you decide.
  • 500 for me. They are both decent enough cars, but one has a bigger emotional pull than the other. The Hyundai is a good car, but it is a bit like a white good- it will do the job, but no flair or passion, the safe, if dull choice. The other is Italian, so is already slightly mad, and I think you'd enjoy it more.

    This is my dilema!

Are you the type of person that thinks a car is there just to get you from A to B and analyses running costs down to 3 decimal points, or is there something more intangible about what car you own?

For 12 years I lived with a tree hugging, car hating hippie, so my choice was limited to non turbo diesel estates, and I hated driving with a passion, since she became my ex, I treated myself to a nice car, and discovered my love for driving again. On paper, it doesnt make sense, I get poor mpg, the servicing costs are high, insurance is high etc, but for a number of reasons that I cant quite put my finger on, it puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it and hence its staying.

In fact for similar intangible reasons, I am on the lookout for a 1970s Merc saloon I did buy one a couple of years back whilst under the influence of 3 bottles of wine on ebay, but it was the wrong time so had to sell.

Neither, I'd go for the alfa mito ;)

But if you like driving, and care about style, go for the 500. If its just basic transport, then for go for the hi'n'die.

The Fiat 500 gets my vote, the Hyundai has no charisma, such an anonymous car.
Might be good security wise though, as I don't think anyone would want to steal it.

you cant compare the two, as they are totally different cars, aimed at different markets, with different price scales

the 500 is only 4 seats and two doors, whereas the i10 is a 5 seater and 4 doors

once you add on all the twiddles most people want on a 500, the prices are over the £10k mark, whereas the i10 tops at £9k

however, resale wise, the 500s value will have depreciated alot less than the i10 over the next 5yrs

are you able to use the scrappage scheme? if so, i would buy the 500 and sell it privately straightaway, make a bit of profit, and buy something a bit older for less money

    Funny old thread.

So many responses before anyone stated the obvious point made by flea about them being very different cars. Therefore decision needs to be made on fit for your purpose.

Both are good cars though in their respective markets.

One other point that jumps out a mile is that the fiat 500 and the Ford Ka are the same cars.

Made in the same factory using same chassis and same engines before being adapted by Ford/Fiat in terms of the 'top hat' or body.

May be well worth looking at a ka or even new fiesta as well if your in a Ford dealership as serious alternatives.

Other thing to remember is the Fiat 500 is the car of the moment so you will be paying a big premium for having a trendy car.

Stunning little car though - Fiat have really turned the corner with this car. Only concern I would have is long term reliability is unproved and Fiats do have a reputation for problems.

Turned the corner before the 500 really. The Panda started it for me along with the Bravo, Grande Punto and even some of the other less well known ones aren't bad.

Reliability in a Fiat will not really be much worse than the other big names that kick about the wrong end of the table at survey time- Vauxhall, Citroen, Renault, Peugeot et al.

Indeed Auto Express gave the new Bravo 22nd place in the reliability stakes- Fiat has got over the iffy 80's and 90's. Indeed they are one of the few car makers in profit.
