My sister used to do Avon but stopped at Christmas, she works part time and only was given a few streets - from which she only had about 8 customers. She hardly ever made a profit and what she did went back on books etc. How many streets is best to have, i know it all depends on who orders/ doesnt etc. But she used to put ads in shops and even put a poster in my car for a few weeks, this spread her clients all round town and as she doesnt drive that was a nightmare.
She also had more than a few clients not paying on time/saying they'll have it next week etc, so she payed it out of her own pocket and still has the Avon stuff in bags! (I didn't know at the time she was doing that or i would have shook the life out of her) But what does she do with it now that's the thing.

How many of you actually make anything like a good profit for doing Avon? Is it worth me saying to her it might be good to give it another go some point this year?

She's not on here that's why im putting this up but she is in the room with me.

  • Sky, anything not delivered she can return (there's a special code for it so must be quite common); if she applies for credit and returns the items before her next invoice is due for settlement then she just knocks the amount off what she owes. Sounds like that's not the case with your sister though - not sure but would assume that as/when/if your sister returns the items then it will show as a credit on her account. Whether she can actually get that refunded is another matter...... (Think she has 90 days to return any items for credit.)

My pre-Christmas orders were down but was really surprised post-Christmas. Am wondering if people just didn't have time to look at the book in the run up to Christmas but then made up for it?

Reverting to your sister, considering that any time my account has shown a credit it then 'disappears' somewhere (written off?) I'd suggest that she continue for at least a short time longer, see if she can get some orders and then she'll have something to offset the credits against.

Good luck to her (and well done you for helping her ;))

MC, my OH got that survey too. He is on his 4th campaign or was as I have asked for him to be removed, still waiting for it... I think it is just to try and get from real reps what they think of deliveries and the way items are boxed etc. I have noticed on one of my additional orders I was charged incorrectly but I think I put the wrong codes in as I was in a rush, so just left it. Otherwise have never noticed an overcharge. I do check the amounts so that they tally with the customer.

Just spotted this on the website.

New Brochure Bags Coming Early 2010

Good news – we did some online research and asked for your feedback on the current brochure bags. Based on your requests, we have now ordered you some new bags which should be with us end of Jan/Feb time. The cost and quantity of the bags will remain the same – 80p for 50.

The key differences are they will be:
    Re-sealable (zip seal)
Better quality plastic (so more durable)
Bigger size (bags will fit one brochure and a flyer). The sizing is an extra 2cm in height and width, as requested by you via the online research conducted.

has anybody any experience with the Gwyneth slippers? they're in C4 flyers (think they've been in the book before tho) have a customer who really wants a 4 but they only do a 5/6 7/8 so i wondered how big they might be.the large boot slipper from xmas didn't fit me and i'm an 8 so at the sec i am assuming that they're all small sizes.i have told her she could order and send back which i don't mind doing but would rather not if i can help it.

    hope somebody can help

re the 'new' bags-seems a lot better to me and i'll probably buy some.i only bought the last lot to use for orders as i'd read on here that they were crap for books

I'm at work so can't check, but yes those sections sound right. Yes any fsb/commission from our teams would go into earnings as well. I'd think of everything you can for your costs though, to keep your "profit" to a minimum (ie be a little creative ;)) I have a folder which I've put a "Poly pocket" for each month in, and put my receipts for things I've bought into it (for any stationary, bags etc - anything I don't get from avon), and on my invoices I just highlight the products that I bought for myself / free gifts etc so that I know when it comes to my tax return that I didn't earn anything on those items. I would try to account for everything - is as much as it means you will be paying less tax, but you don't necessarily to have extensive records for it, afterall the tax man isn't going to expect an avon lady to have fantastic records, just reasonable ones to show your incomings/out goings. It isn't that bad when you get round to it.

    Hi

Thank you so much for your quick reply and handy info. It is much appreciated.

Thanks, aureol, hope they're durable enough for the job. Have been buying resealable bags at 6p each so 80p for 50 is great.....

Nice one, those other bags were not very good
  • :rotfl: Just had one of those conversations with OH - you know, when they think they can organise things better than you can! :rotfl:

Me: I'm all over the place today - got brochures to collect from last time's customers and F&F.

OH: Where are you going then?

Me: All over the place - they're dotted around the area.

OH: Well, why don't you leave doing books in those areas till you're going there anyway.

Me: I'd totally lose track of where I'd been and anyway I'd have to go past the customers houses anyway to get to the others

    OH: Can't see why...........................etc, etc

Aaaaargh! Can anyone explain it better than me? :D

I did the survey too. I agree the other bags were rubbish.
Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.
