Also the post office can install a new line - only 15 days notice required to cancel.
There is no minimum contract.0 -
Fantastic! Sky offered to do it for free but if youve been using their free calls and not paying line rental with them apparently youre not allowed to use them, thought that was a bit unfair and a bit odd too!0

What's the deal with openreach and bt? I still don't fully understand I don't think, are providers such as Tiscali able to activate their own lines now? Assuming the line that I have here is with openreach, they could do it instead of BT?0

All providers can request Openreach install a line but it seems that some (many?) do not wish to do this and thus say you need to request a line from BT, to which BT puts you on a 12 month contract.
EDIT 10:55 - red text above.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
But that contract does not stop you immediately opting to use a CPS and/or indirect access calls providers for your calls.0

Heinz's previous posts take you to a BT notice which appear's to have been superseded, from what I can see the offer is exactly the same, the new notice just seems to refer to BT's new calling plans. See here;

I have just had a BT telephone line installed in my new house.
I looked on their website and saw the BT Answer 1571 service is free - that is until I read the small print which says that you have to make a minimum of two chargeable calls per month (or pay £1). If you are on a call package (unlimited evening and weekend calls), how can they claim this service is free?Thank you for reading this message.0 -
