OK, I'll start.
The government.
The M.O.D.
HMRC.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

I'm merely giving an honest opinion.
Try getting thru to a real person at BT it's virtually impossible.0 -

I called BT tonight to move my account from my old home to my new home
. The woman told me the line wasnt connected to a BT line and an engineer would have to come out which would cost 125 - I said I would get back to her. Its an old property and has phone sockets so I guess it has been disconnected?
There was no mention of the half price installation I have just seen mentioned on the previous page of this thread - can I just ask for that when I call back tomorrow?0 -
I moved into my property a few weeks back. I asked bt to transfer my number over to my new address and I was told there would be a charge of £125. The line was already in my new address and the bt box on the wall. When the engineer came out he didnt have to do anything, his words where "your line is already setup". I then rang bt and explained everything they then said I wouldnt get charged. I got my bill in a few days ago and I have been charged so I rang yet again to be told the charge was correct. I have lost count the number of times I have rang over this matter and its like banging my head against a brick wall.0

When BT first called me back about supplying a new line, I was told I could spread the £125 fee over 12 months if I paid by Direct Debit. Since then I have cancelled my order, tried cable with no luck and now gone back to BT. Now I can find no mention of this option on either their website, via Google or 150. Can anyone shed any light on this or was I misinformed from the start? True, you'd still be paying £125, but it's a much softer blow at £10.42 a month
I've since found out they stopped offering this in MAY and I was "wrongly informed". So now the full £125 (plus my first month's bill) will come out of my account between Xmas and New Year  Merry Christmas BT!!! Maybe you could have used some of the money you spent on those twee Kris Marshall ads on training your staff so that they know their !!!!!! from their elbows instead.0 -
Hi, i recently moved into a flat which i bought off a friend of mine. He had a BT service and used there total broadband service. I've moved into the flat and found there is no dial tone on the line. i phoned BT and they first said that the previous owner must have had a different supplier, i argued that they didnt and that they were with BT. He said to double check and phone back. I spoke to my mate and he confirmed they were with BT and that they only requested their number was moved to their new house. I phoned BT back and the girl said that they have taken the line with them, which isnt physically possible!!!
I've now read the article in the guardian which says BT have said that if the previous occupiers were with BT there should be no charge.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2007...honesbroadband
Is there anything i can do about this or do i need to pay and then apply for a refund???
Any help would be apprciated0 -

According to the BT Price list, 'Spread connection' is still available for residential customers, though it is no longer available for business lines.Residential customers who apply for a new exchange line can choose to make a payment in advance of service of £23.39 (exc VAT) / £27.49 (inc VAT). This cost includes a facility fee of £10.60 (exc VAT) / £12.46 (inc VAT), followed by four further payments of £23.39 (exc VAT) / £27.49 (inc VAT) which will be added to their first four quarterly bills. Spread connection is not available to BT Pay&Call customers.
BT Basic customers who apply for a new exchange line can choose to make a payment in advance of service of £24.99(inc VAT) followed by four further payments of £25.00(inc VAT) which will be added to their first four quarterly bills.
