To late old owner has had it disconected, tried to stay with them but line is now ceased and bt have to re connect.0

BT dont have to reconnect the line, theres plenty of providers out there that will install/reconnect lines. Infact the industry is open for any provider to do that, even talk talk. Whether they want to do it or not is a different question.
Just ensure whoever you go with for the reconnection make sure you're aware of how long you have to stay with them and/or penalty charges for leaving a contract early if you want to go with another calls provider0 -
Of course, if you get BT to connect/reconnect, you can opt to CPS your calls to another provider immediately (i.e. regardless of the 12 month tie-in for the line rental).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

hi folks,
Any thoughts on this one? I am moving to a new flat that doesnt have a BT line installed. I am with Sky and BT and i would like to move them both. Sky want 50 to setup a new dish and Bt want 125 to install a new line. As you can imagine i am a bit !!!!ed off as this is a hell of a lot of money.
I can get virgin broadband/tv/phone installed for £5 and £30 per month for all free.
I am thinking of ringing them both and saying I am looking at switching to cable and see if they say anything different. At the end of the day i want to stay with them but it is expensive. Not just threatening to move but intending to. Anyone any similar experiences?FreePremiershipOnline.com - your guide to free streaming football0 -
BT has been psychologically harassing me for more than a month now. I recently rented a new flat (having BT sockets) and ordered a new
line activation form BT. Also agreed to pay £125 for activation as
no one lived there earlier.
However believe it or not i had to place an order 4 times (3 on phone
and 1 online). Actually there was a weird problem with my new flat in Tipton, West Midlands:
Apparently, Royal mail has changed its post code and the new postcode
is not there in any company's database (incl google maps/tom tom/
BT/virgin media etc)I did mention the old and the new postcodes to BT
while placing my order. However after a week or so when i try to enquire
about the follow up they apologise and say the order didnt go through and
place a fresh order and give me an brand new order ref number.
Trust me i have to wait for 3 hours many times to speak to these
incompetent BT advisors, who r fit for nothing. Many times they try
redirecting my call to another dept. (which again takes an hour or so
for an advisor to get on line)
I have tried complaining by phone/email/letters but nothing has been
happening my way and i am completely frustrated/annoyed with what i
have to go through. It is becoming my biggest nightmare. My mates
have started teasing me with this issue and sarcastically ask me if
i hav got a BT line yet!!
I have taken off frm work twice as BT promised me an engineer visit.
However no engineer called me, let alone showing up.
I again gave them a call today and a BT advisor say they have made a new order and my activation is due on 12th October!!
I dont trust them anymore as they have promised me such dates in
the past as well but nothing happened and no one bothered getting in touch with me regarding this issue.
Virgin media wont give me a connection as there are no cables laid there.
I have paid the rent for September 07 but didnt lived there even for a day coz without, i cant order sky tv or broadband and without which i cant live
in a flat.
PLEAE PLEASE HELP ME SOMEONE AS TO WHAT SHOULD I DO NEXT. yOUR HELP WILL BE MUCH APPRECIATED!!!!!!0 -
I highly doubt that would count as torture. :P
It wouldnt shock me to find out this is down to the useless new system we use to take orders with. What a pain in the rectum it is.
Glad you consider BT workers fit for nothing though, if this forum alowed personal insults I would shot a few your way as I am certainly fit for a lot of things. Except a marathon. Or a 50 meters sprint. Or a 10 yard dash.

I've just email the following to BT which I think explains my situation. Is it false information from BT or is it our fault for not triple checking the information?
"My partner and I moved into a rented house on 28th Sept. On 26th Sept I phoned BT and asked if there was a BT line going into the house. I was told by a young man that there was, but that we couldn't 'take it over' and had to get the previous tenants to cancel and BT would be reconnected with a new number FOR FREE.
My partner has phoned you today to reconnect and you have stated that there was NOT a line into the house and you want £120 to reconnect us! We have subsequently discovered that the connection to the house was with TalkTalk and not BT but because of your mis-information we now have to pay £120 for your services. We need to get a phone line into the house so that my partner can work online from home and this is delaying the issue. I WANT TO KNOW YOUR COMMENTS ASAP."
Any suggestions what we can do?0 -
Strange that as when you have Talk Talk you still pay BT rental.
Have you asked CPW/Talk Talk what their take on your situation and what they do when customers move? They might have a solution.ac's lovechild0 -

I have recently moved into a house which previously had a bt line, however bt still want the £125 to reconnect it.
I agree that if it was a new home and bt need to supply and sort everything then the 125 may be worth it.
But surely not just to reconnect a line that was stopped a month ago.0
