  • OK, maybe for a new development you can justify 125 quid, but we live in a 1960's block and have a BT line still coming in to the flat, including the master socket. Been with NTL for several years but would like to switch back to BT in order to benefit from talkTalk, but BT still want 125 quid. In this case the copper wire is bought and paid for long ago, the chances of anything having been disconnected in the boxes in the street are minimal, and all it would take is to type a few commands on a computer somewhere in the local exchange. In this case, 125 quid is totally unjustifiable.
  • I have a line that works in my new home and they still want £124 quid !
  • BT are the biggest bunch of *expletives* ever. They told me it would be £125 to connect me even though there is a line intact. The engineer came (2 weeks late due to BT being incompetent) and told me that I shouldn't have to pay that amount because the line is completely intact. He said that it's only if the wiring needs to be changed/tampered with so he would put on the jobs list that it won't cost that much. Yesterday I received a bill for £166! £125 for installation & £30 for something else. I just am at whits end with BT. I have spend 4 or 5 hours total in a queue phoning them.

When they were a monopoly the B stood for, bloody and the T for thieves, (they after all set up thel 0870 0845 fiasco with their buddy Oftel, now Ofcom.) Things seem to have got worse in most customer services in general. BG o2 NTL CPW, also come to mind, especially with their ofshore call centres, etc etc. Its about time the Brits stood up to these rip-offs and bad service.

  • What can i do im getting nowhere and now its gettign serious-

moved half way through my contract into a property with an existing line, got changed over, engineer assured me there would be no chrage due to the wiringh alreday existing.

get billed for the installation- £100+ , i phone and telll them i shouldn't have been charged- they agree and tell me they will rectify it- next bill comes through, charge is still there- i ring again they apologise and tell me they'll rectify now.

imagine my surprise when i get a letter from a solictor telling me they are now collecting the debt- phone bt wait 20 minutes to get to a supervisor- who apologises for the mistake and says he'll rectify- he then hangs up half way through the call- 20 minutes later i get through to another supervisor who again apologises and says she'll fix it and phone back- ive yet to hear from her but need to get this solictor letter sorted as its a worry and couldn affect my credit rating...

any ideas? personally i think such incopmptence is actually harrassment- ive spent intotal 2 horus on the phones rectifying this and everytime i was assured it was sorted i was essentially being lied to, ive written to BT about things before and got no response so am stuck for what more i can do
  • Time now to bring in 'Ofcom', here is their website.

I really hope you sort it out.

    Good luck.

well if you have the same experience as me you'll get billed again for this- they say they will remove it next time but wont and then you will recieve a letter from the solicitors...im actually raising a harrassment through misconduct/negligence complaint against them i suggest you do the same, once my contract ends im done with them for ever!!
  • I've just been enlightened by the reconnection fee on a house I am moving into soon - same story £124.99 even though the phoneline at that property has not been in use for about 2 months. So interestingly at the house I am in now (currently virgin phoneline), I plugged the phone into the BT socket which still exists (not been in use for 4 years) and it is absolutely dead - no dial tone. Phoned up BT to ask how much it would cost to reconnect at present house - they did a quick line test and they said it would cost nothing? In my mind no dial tone would suggest something has been removed/disconnected and would warrant a fee?

Nightmare, moving into a new house .the old owner was with talk talk and have closed the line. So ihave to pay the 124.99 connection fee no problem.I then wish to use another service provider talk talk or tiscali, according to BT i will have to start a contract with them for line rental minium 12 months. or pay £70 pounds to cancel it !! all i want is for them to connect the line back and then let me choose from there ..is this the case ????

    Thoughts please

Have you not asked Talk Talk to activate your line?
