Hi all
I was hoping that someone might be able to help me. I have recently moved into my house. Its not a new build it has been built since 2003. However i have just tried to get my phone line connected and i have now been told that its going cost me £125. Is this right, is there anyway of getting around this.
thank you0 -
Has it had BT Service before if not £125 is the going rate. Also if it has had BT service and the line has been disconnected,or the wiring and master socket have been removed, £125 is also the correct rate.
You can pay the £125 in four instalments plus a small admin fee,if that helps your cash flow.0 -
Sorry if this has been asked before, but I need clarification!
I've recently moved into a new flat, its not an exceptionally new build and it does have a BT line that has previously been active. Rang BT they of course told me that its £125 to re-connect the disconnected line, I have a few questions;
1. How is it the same price for that procedure (which to my, admitedly untrained, eye seems like a much simpler job) than to connect a whole new line.
2. In an article posted on this forum yesterday I got the impression that madasafish wouldn't charge for re-activating an old line, but this seems to possible be contradicted on their website.
thanks in advance, I really want to get this sorted because not having internet is like living in the stone age, but as far as I understand that BT have to re-coup costs, £125 seems steep for switching a line back on. Also they seem to have taken the line that they've introduced this to make back the money that they lose through people switching to talk-talk et al, but they've now locked people into a 12 month contract in any case, all seems like spin to me. But in any case, if there's no way round it there's no way round it and i'll have to pay up. Would just hate to pay and then for ofcom or similar to say its not allowed or for some company to run a free connections promotion. Like buying something then seeing it in the sales for half price!0 -

Its like going on holiday then moaning about the cost of a passport.
A £125 quid to get a working phone line installed in you house for the rest of your homes life which is also maintained and worked on if necessary is in my opinion a good return.
I have just moved in to a flat that clearly has a phone line already installed (the people who were there before had ADSL broadband & the phone socket is there) but BT want to charge me £125 for installation! I am a student that lives off a student loan, so I'm not the world's richest. Why should BT charge me this much?0 -
Hi
I have just moved into a brand new property without a land line. BT are coming later on to install my new line for £125 which is fair enough. So to get the best sky, broadband & telephone deal am I right in thinking, I just cancel with BT and pay the £70 fee as I would have left before my 12 months contract is up and then I can choose another service provider to go with?
Thanks0 -

As Espresso points out you will still need an active BT phone line, and pay BT line rental, to take the Sky Bundle, because SKY dont provide lines just yet,but they plan to do so in the future.
In any case its not generally considered to be a good idea to move your line rental from BT.0 -

Dont think you would pay the £70, because you would still have a BT line.
Normally you only had to be with BT for 3 months before changing to Talk Talk. Dont know if this applies to new installations though, maybe the rules have changed?ac's lovechild0
