Some would argue they're the same thing.

Certainly, it's his way or the highway.

Strong leadership is very important for a company. Just look at what happened to Apple when he left. Michael Dell said at the time that he would "shut it down and give the money back to the shareholders". Now Apple is worth almost 8 times more than Dell.

Hey I'm not arguing about how good he is at his job, I just view more as a dictatorship. You think apple will survive him? History says no.

BTW I've never used wolfram before but I !!!!!!!ised your search out of interest with microsoft, they seem to be mirroring each other: http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=microsoft+apple+market+cap

I do have to say wolfram is rubbish.

It depends who his successor is. I doubt he or she will be as charismatic, but there are plenty of visionaries in the tech world.

If you look at the 10 year view, it tells a different story:

Many analysts are predicting that Apple will overtake Microsoft within the next few years and become the most valuable technology company in the world. So much for market-share.

They do seem to share some peaks and troughs though. It would be interesting to find out what events caused them.

Wolfram is excellent at what it is designed to do. Try the search you've just done in Google and see what happens.

True true, bill used to be considered one, suppose he still is. Wonder if he'll take the job?:D

2000 is around the time XP came out, after ME no wonder, which was with us a long time probably explains the cooling off. Now windows 7 is here they'll probably go back up again as businesses move over.

    2008 was probably the crash.
