I agree but when I said components I was thinking more of CPU, RAM etc. The bits that actually make a computer. There's no reason other manufactureres can't do similar things with the case, cables etc.

But the case is a component too. It's the part of a computer that we interact with on a tactile level, so it's very important.

I agree that there's no reason other manufacturers can't do the same thing, but for the most part, they don't. It's just too expensive, and nobody buys a £300 computer because it looks nice.
It gets depressing sometimes reading the bashing that goes on, I remember it all from the C64/Spectrum and ST/Amiga days.

    I had an Amstrad CPC 464. ;)

If not, and I can actually use it as a hard drive for doing things other than just backing up my Mac's hard drive, can someone tell me how I go about setting it up as such?

Go into the Time Capsule preferences (in the AirPort utility), and on the File Sharing tab, turn sharing on, give your Time Capsule a password then save the settings.

My OH spent 2 years hating my MacBook because he didnt understand it and didn't want to make the effort to. He rigidly stuck with his laptop until DD managed to load it with viruses for the tenth time thanks to all the crap she downloads on it.

I bought a new 13" MB Pro and gave him my MB. A month on and he loves it, loves the simplicity of the OS and has turned into a complete Mac fanboy. It amuses me greatly :)

I wish I knew what this simplicity was - i've had my mac for about 12/13 months and have yet to experience it - hopefully one day I will :(
Hate and I do mean Hate my apple Mac Computer - wish I'd never bought the thing
    Do little and often
Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying
