Vanilla, that's OUTRAGEOUS! Can you get a quick appointment with citizens advice to see what you can do to contest this before money gets spent?

Sending you humungous coping vibes love xxx

We tried to get in touch with the CAB but they never answer the phone:mad: so decided to book an appointment with MP and i hope he sorts this out.
We were told to ring the benefit office to see about getting some sort of help to pay for the test and the only thing we could do is put in for a budgeting loan and then pay it back. I asked them what should i put down on the form and they said anything except a DNA test.
Sometimes it seems that the going is just too rough.
And things go wrong no matter what I do.
Now and then it seems that life is just too much.
But you've got the love I need to see me through.

She has to agree to the DNA test (which she can refuse to do) and the only way to prove he isn't the father is the test, then once OH is proved not the father the CSA will pay him back for the test and any payments he's made but until that he has to pay her money each week. They won't tell us anything, weather a birth cert has been handed in or what there proof actually is. I'm totally gutted and hubby's trying to forget about it as he just can't handle it at the minute. So i'm left doing all the work on something i know nothing about.
    .

Vanilla, don't just take the CSA's word for it - get thee hence to the Citizens Advice Bureau PDQ!

    More hugs love xxx

ETA - as we crossed posted - then visit the office if they're not answering the phone. Or could you try a solicitor for a free half hour consultation?

My blood is boiling for you.

vanilla that is so wrong expecting him to pay for a child on the say so of some mother somewhere - he should be paying when he is proved to be the father which of course he wont be. And if she refuses the DNA then DH could be paying indefinately - that is so ridiculous!!! I will be keeping everything crossed that she agrees to the DNA test to end this incredible nightmare.

eta yes i was thinking along the lines of a budgeting loan too - they usually only take off a few pounds a week so its not too bad and there is no interest. put down that its for a new cooker and/or washing machine or new boiler - something essential. and ask for more than you need because they sometimes oly give you a percentage
    Peace will be mine

Spoke to a solicitor today and he said write a letter to them saying he's not the father, which i will do on friday. Wanna see what the MP comes up with from the sounds of it he's going to phone them himself on friday. After that it will have to be recorded letters all the way. I just can't believe he has to prove he's not the father rather than them prove he is. We don't know what proof they aparently have but i would think there would have to be a birth cert signed or something. If that was the case then it would be fraud as he's signed nothing. I asked today what would happen if we went ahead with the DNA and then she didn't want her son tested and stopped claiming payment, would we get the money back from the test? They didn't know.

Sorry that you couldn't get through; when you speak to your MP, please mention funding of CABs. We're about to be asked to do loads more work, open more hours, all for less money

Good luck - it seems outrageous to me that you need to pay for this test in advance

Bed stripped and re-made. Laundry piling up waiting to be done when I can get close enough to the WM to make sure that they filter is definitely back properly!

I'm shattered... and am wondering whether I can get away with going to bed now . I might actually manage to get up at a sensible time if I do.

Vanilla - I hope you can find some sensible advice. As soappie says, how about finding a solicitor? (Can you also do some kind of random phone book check to point out that there are other people with the same name as your OH, and ask what they have done to confirm that it is actually him and not someone else?) How about claiming she's the mother of your children and that you want money from her???
