Triker - ask questions about your work scheme. Last time I worked for a big company there was insurance in place to cover you leaving for any reason, and they continued to provide it even if you were on long term sick leave. For the comfort factor of just being able to hand it back and no unexpected bills I would go for the work car every time as long as the mileage payment covers the actual fuel costs. My DH has the choice of an allowance or a work car - last time we went for an allowance but kept getting hit for tyres, servicing, etc. This time he had to have a company car (40k miles in 12 months!) and we have actually worked out a lot better off despite the tax etc. Are you allowed to go down a grade and have a smaller car? That really paid off for me in the good old career b!!ch days pre children.

We have been to see Santa this morning. He got the boys to promise to tidy the playroom and their bedrooms, which they are now doing :p. Well worth pre-briefing Santa. DS1 wants to send the 'spying rats' back to Santa - aka Scrumble and Tumble our Reindeer Magic Helpers :rotfl:.

I need to crack on and see if I can get any more of these stars.

    Afternoon

I got my bed!!!! :j:j:j Just waiting for DS to return from hubby's house (ex hubby:confused: Oh I dunno what he is!!) with a selection of allen keys. So that I can dismantle my old bed and put it in DS room.

Triker - I know how you feel. Cars are money pits.
I don't know what you do for work or what sort of mileage you do. Is it mainly motorway? But I would be inclined to by a decent second hand car outright through a private buyer or a car auction. Do you have any near you?

You can get some really good cars at the auctions and at the moment it's a buyers market. Do you know anyone that is knowledgeable about cars that you could take with you?
  • We are back in our sitting room, it is gorgeous.
For about ten seconds it was clutter free, now it is strewn with toys.

Made chocolate brownies for the church bazaar. Two loads of washing on. Cleaning silver plate with special electrolysis thingy.

Yes, I do, I wouldn't know where to start re auctions though.

I'm really confuzzled, the lease car seems such a convenient option in so many ways, but then again I like to 'own' a car outright. Honestly, I'm not good with things like getting services done either.

I am a very bad car owner, they hold no interest to me other than to get me from a to b, not have me at the petrol station too often and big enough to fit my carp in.:D

Hubby's gone off for a test drive at a dealership, I've bottled out.:o

  • Triker I would buy a one year old car with lowish mileage every time, if I had the cash. I don't though, and so we buy bangers privately which is a false economy with repair costs. Buying cheapish from a dealer, at least you have some protections under the sale of goods act. Buying privately you have no come-back. Work scheme sounds interesting.

soappie huge hugs to your DD, if I were her, I would be happy if I just didn't do the man any harm, or managed not to faint. Good on her.

ishtar aren't you Witney way? There's a lovely Waitrose, can't you go there?

    Off to get lunch ready.
