I know, its so hard, the lease car is a 3 year tie in which really worries me...but I am so flummoxed with it all.

Previously about 8 years ago I got a huge loan (well huge to me) and bought a second hand car for £8000. That car was marvellous but I ran it into the ground, it lasted 6 years but I put a huge amount of mileage on it 80,000 plus by the end. The loan was paid off but it always niggled me re the debt and the what if's....

I suppose if I'm completely frank after being so ill this year, I'm really frightened of being in that position again, unable to work, and having some massive debt or contract to sort out. That's the crux of it really, I'm scared.:o

Yep...that was (is) plan B! OH will be designated chief babysitter while I disappear at around 6am (yes, 6am...before the hordes arrive - hopefully). I'm planning a mega-shop (ie. 2 weeks worth of 'normal' shop) to arrive on 18 December, then it'll be just the fresh stuff to get..x
Thanks for the reminder, I hate it at this time of year you cant move, I dont really get much different to usual but at least I dont have DH filling up the trolley and raising the cost. I managed to get a slot for Mon 21st which is fine for me as I like to have it in and done then. Thanks again

    Dilemma alert

Ok so I need a car for work, a reliable, cost effective one as I do a lot of mileage.

    I also have debt.

I have a sum of money being transferred to my bank from my credit card, 0% for 14 months.

    Soooooo do I

    a) spent the lot of a car from a dealership, it'll be second hand but I'll get a warranty and I'm hoping piece of mind that its a decent car with lowish mileage.

    b) Put the lot down as a huge deposit and get finance for a new car, then I can use my old car as scrappage, then I'll have the debt and the finance.

    c) Lower my sights significantly and spend say half the amount of a car, maybe buy privately through autotrader or local paper. Won't get warranty. Will have significant amount of money to clear most debts and get myself back on track.

    d) Get a lease car from work, advantages, I can get a new car, disadvantages, I lose my allowance as a essential car user, my mileage rate drops very significantly and an amount of tax will be deducted from my wages. However everything is taken care of from tax to insurance and piece of mind that if anything goes wrong with the car the garage deals with it and I don't have to pay. All servicing is included too.

Any ideas guys, I would really like the piece of mind of a good reliable car but am extremely worried re the debt issue.:o:o

I think you need to look at what you would lose from your wages and seriously look at a lease car. Wherever you buy a car from it can go wrong and could prove costly which then adds to your debt. Just to give you an idea (you may already know your costs) in the last 12 months we have spent £1700 on fuel (1 car DH cycles to work), £200 insurance, £22 oil, £358 tyres (2:eek:), £220 service/repairs and £210 car tax, and £30 MOT. We have been lucky and have a somewhat reliable Saab but should anything go wrong it will cost big time! Good luck with the decision. ETA read your other post, if you're scared of being in same situation, lease - it will take away the worry.

    Lilme - hugs honey
sarah - nice to see you popping in
MSD - +ve vibes for Tristan

Darn -thought the kids had finished in the bathroom, DS there now

Wee hall is all done too, even got down on my hands and knees and scrubbed the floor (it makes such a difference).
Need to get the christmas tree box away, get BM on and i might even scrub the kitchen floor to see if it brings it up better.
Sometimes it seems that the going is just too rough.
And things go wrong no matter what I do.
Now and then it seems that life is just too much.
But you've got the love I need to see me through.

    Morning all!

Hope you've all had a good week - haven't been able to catch up with all of the thread yet as it's so long since I popped in, and it's moving quickly as usual.

Haven't recieved the Christmas card list pigpen.

Have realised I'm going to have to buy some more cards, as one of the office staff sent me a card the other day, so obviously staff give each other cards at this school too. Plus of course I'll need some for my lovely flying friends.

Had a bit of a lie-in this morning cos I was up working at 5am yesterday cos I couldn't sleep, and was up until 11.30pm last night, and still woke up at 6.30am today, so I went back to sleep with little black furry cat.

2 weeks to go - 10 working days! Woohoo!

Have been spending a lot of time getting evidence for my NQT folder at school, and hopefully my final review (to say whether I've passed my NQT year) will be next week. So, soon I could find out whether I'll be able to teach again (if you fail, you're not allowed to teach in any state school, and you don't get a second chance to try again). Fingers crossed that I pass! Will let you all know as soon as I know a date for the review, so you can send me some vibes. Think it'll be nasty deputy head doing it!

Plan for today then, is to have a shower and get dressed, have brunch, plan the meals for the week, go into town and buy the food and cards, and then mark 6 of my literacy books. I got quite a few up-to-date, but the marking goes back as far as the beginning of November because of all of the stupid assessments we had to do, so lots to do, and it gets very boring! Have split them all up into so many a day so that by the end of the weekend, they should all be done. Also need to clean the bathroom, and do some more washing, and put away the washing that OH did yesterday (he never puts it away).

Hugs to all who need or want them, congratulations where appropriate, and Happy Birthday if I've missed any this week!

    Love to you all,

    sexymouse xx

I have never used an online supermarket for my shopping but am considering it so I don't have to deal with them as they get busy. Do they normally have the same sort of deals as going into the stores or not? I am a bit clueless on it at the mo
ETA do you get good fruit, veg etc or is it better to go and choose that yourself?
