Anyone got experience of contraceptive implant removal?

I have had three of them now and I have to say that they don't hurt going in or out! last time though the doctor made a mess of it because my arm bled all over the place and she couldn't grab it to pull it out so my arm afterwards was black and blue and it ached for 2 days, nothing more nothing less. hurts much less than a filling in the dentist

Weight gain is the last thing I need and I've had a breast reduction three years ago so them getting bigger is my worst nightmare

Ive got to be honest and say I have nearly put on a stone and a half since ajusting to my new implant. I had it "installed" in December. it's not the implant that makes you gain weight as such but more of a hunger thing I think anyway. I tend to start losing the weight at the beginning of the 2nd year when all has calmed down.
Were not all the same, some people don't put any weight on. but I have had 3 now and its happend every time

I had an implant last year put in but it made me feel so sick that I went to have it taken out. However, they could not find it and they had to book me for a ultra sound scan, which also could not find it. They booked me and appointment to see a specialist but I had to be there at 8am and it was impossible with 2 young children, so I have an implant lost somewhere

OMG!
alwaysonthego that's completely freaked me out. I had mine put in 2 months ago and I keep feeling my arm to check it's still there. My doc assured me that it couldn't 'travel' anywhere! Eek!Mummy to DS May 08 and DD Oct 09
Started joint IVA in Nov 09 - 13 payments down 47 to go!

I had my second implant put in last March. The doc did struggle a bit trying to get the old one out, a bit of tugging and pulling..But like someone else mentioned, certainly no worse than a filling at the dentist.
For me, the uncomfortable 1/2hr of old one out, new one in has been worth it. No side effects, no periods, my weight has stayed roughly the same (I could do to lose a few pounds, but that's more down to my unhealthy eating rather than the implant).
I have heard some horror stories, but fortunately for me it's worked a treat.LHS No 2220 -
Don't listen to him, I was never told the possiblilty of it happening! It is a good job I don't want any more children as it will affect my fertility. They should warn people of the possibilty at leastlaurasbump wrote: »OMG!

Can't remember if i posted before.
Having it out was...erm..uncomfortable. That's the best way i can really describe it.
It has scarred though but i think thats cos the dressing didn't hold it together properly.
Never again mind, the everlasting periods weren't worth it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
had mine 2 years ago, after years of the depo. Was good the first year, no periods (same as depo) but now i seem to get very light ones every 23 days. Which is slightly annoying. But i suppose better than full blown proper ones. don't think they will remove it and back to the jab for that so will wait until its 3 years and then remove it and go back to the injections. can't be doing with periods!!0

I had depo which stopped my periods, and then last year june I had the implant. In around november / december I started getting periods which were heavy and irregular, and from january to march this year I had constant periods.
Went to the doctor and got put on a pill I used to use a few years ago, marvelon, for 2 months, and this has regulated them. I still get them, but at what feels like a 28 day-ish cycle (I don't keep track of the dates).
So after a shaky start, I'm happy. I haven't gained weight, and now have a regular cycle, and don't have to do anything until june 2012.0 -
I had the implant fitted and did put weight on during the 3 years it was in. I decided not to have it replaced as we wanted another baby. I fell pregnant in 3 weeks of removal. It is the only contraception that has worked for me, I have fell pregnant on everything else I have tried.0
