Anyone got experience of contraceptive implant removal?

i had 3 or 4 lots of implants so about 13 years in total
when they are taken out the local anaesthetic hurts more than the remval itself! alot of tugging really, but don't look at what they are doing - in or out!. get them out sooner rather than later as the longer they are in the more scar tissue there is and the harder it is to get them out - that's why they don't do the fan of five anymore. once one of the fan's wouldn't come out and i had to go back a few days later to have the last one removed.
only a tiny amount of scarring.
i had periods normally, but light and quick and on a 35 day cycle i think, all the way through my last implant (unusual i know) so my periods were totally normal very quickly after i had the last one out.My name is Paula and I am a low carber
1/6/08-83kg : 1/5/10-57kg
(Atkins/IPD) 24/1/13 - 69kg! Yikes!

I had my implanon taken out in March 2008 and was pregnant by April, after having one period. I've got two small scars on my arm - one where it went in and a slightly bigger one where it came out. Neither procedure was a big deal.0

I've had two taken out. My first one was fine, but when I had the exact same implant put in a second time I ended up with five month's of near-constant periods. Had to get a coil instead & now seem to have two mini-periods a month. So probably need to make another embarrassing trup to the gynaecologist. Deep joy.
Also, if anyone is thinking of getting a coil, you should probably know that the fitting hurts like a MF! And I had a really nasty reaction at first, which nearly made me faint, throw up & left me with a cracking migraine!Life is a waste of time.
Time is a waste of life.
Get wasted all the time,
And you'll have the time of your life!

I'm in the other boat, I want to know if it hurts going in!! The doctor has recently said I'm most likely suffering with migraine, and with the combined pill that can increase the risk of stroke so they want me to go on something else. Another pill wouldn't really do it because I'm on other meds which decrease their effectiveness anyway, so it's coil or implant.
I said the word "coil" to my mum and she made a face, so I'm guessing it's not pleasant. So I think implant would work for me, but how exactly does it work? And do you actually have any bleeds while you're on it?Do good deeds and you could raise the curtain, do good deeds and you could really raise your life....0 -

I've had mine in a month or so I have bled for about a weeksome are lucky not to i guess! It was fine going in no pain, and pretty quick ben done. I do notice that its there every now and again though. easier than checking for coil strings all the time though i guess... The thought freeks me out! lol too many people saying on forums that they lost it and things too?!

I was really tempted to get an implant - mainly because I hate getting my period (I get really bad cramps) but in the end I chickened out as I realised that getting my period means im not preggers!! Lol!! Instead I just take my pill packets back to back (2 packs then have a break)0

I've had mine in since beginning of August. For the first three months I averaged a bleed every two to three weeks. I haven't had anything for six weeks now. It takes a while for your body to adjust to the hormones.
I am not very good with needles, but it didn't hurt going in. It hurt after, but that's my own fault - you're supposed to avoid heavy lifting, but I got mine put in the day I was moving house!Don't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP(Unless you know my real name - in which case, feel free to use that just to confuse people!)0 -

The only pain is when the inject the area with a local anesthetic. they then have a big pen type thing and click the end. All over and done in a few seconds. Then they put a plaster on. Job done! It is a little tender afterwards but not painful.
I think with the periods everyone seems to be different. Since my last implant going in (April 2007) I have had 2 periods, lasting 5 days each. From other peoples posts, some bleed for days and days, i don't think there is any rule, its up to each individuals body.
I still would recommend it and have had no problems at all. I changed from the pill (mycrogyon sp?) in 2002 as i started getting really ill from it and this was the best option for me. I wans;t allowed other pills, heard so many bad story's about the injection and just didn't fancy the coil!0 -
I'm having mine taken out next week. Haven't really had a good experience with it at all. Loads of spots on my face and back, 4 week bleeds and moodiness. I didn't have any periods on the injection but got very moody. It was easy going in, but then again I think I'm quite good with pain and not squeamish at all.
