Toshiba Cashback Terms & Condtions........Are they Unfair

Hello,
I purchased a Toshiba LCD TV from Amazon earlier this month and the model I ordered was part of a £100 cashback offer. However, the terms were very restrictive. I was only allowed 7 days from the date of order in which to register the TV for the promotion. Because my father in law was rushed into hospital my thoughts were elsewhere during this initial seven day period and I was unable to register the TV until 8 days after the order. But the registration site allowed me to register and generated a certificate of registration which I duly sent off to Toshiba. I also enclosed a letter explaining my circumstances.
Yesterday a letter arrived from Toshiba telling me that they would not be honouring the cashback.
I was wondering where I stand with this. I was outside the time by a mere 24 hours, but their registration process generated the the certificate of registration. I am very angry with Toshiba for not honouring the cashback, given my personal circumstances which were explained. I also feel that 7 days is not very generous and it compares badly with the current Canon cashback offer which gives participants a much more generous timespan in which to apply for the cashback.
Any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, you don't have a legal right to get the cashback.
This was a special offer where the terms were made clear to you when buying the item. I do admit that this does seem unfair of Toshiba, but they probably hear lots of stories everyday on why the people couldnt do it within 7 days.
Try and find out there complaints procedure and try going down that route, but bare in mind, that anything offered would be in goodwill.0 -
Nikon are also doing a cashback offer on certain cameras. Buy between the 5th November and 10th January and then the buyer has until the 15th February to apply for the cashback. Very similar to the Canon one where you have to buy between the 28th October and 20th Janaury and you have to apply by the 21st February.
Their terms are far more flexible than the paltry 7 days allowed by Toshiba. Two days were lost waiting for the TV to arrive as I couldn't register the product without the serial number."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

Recently bought a Toshiba laptop that had cashback and you couldn't even register it with the first 30 days. So you could only register it after 30 days since purchase and before 60 days.
Seems they have lots of little tricks they try to catch you out. Not us though made a note on the calendar to send it off.0 -
Interesting that they were using different T's and C's for the laptops.
I have also found a cash back promotion for Sony and it is very similar terms to Canon and Nikon i.e much more flexible."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

Yes I think thats it, or similar anyway. We had to use http://www.toshibacashback.com/ to register for the cashback.0 -
Just to play devils advocate they could say you had to run down Oford Street stark bollock naked to get the cash back within 20 minutes of buying if they wished.0

I also purchase a Toshiba with the cashback option, however, it took digitaldirect 14 days to deliver. Bearing in mind that you need the serial number to register, I registered on the day it arrived, which was 14 days after initial purchase, but the 1st possible time for me to get the serial number. I think it unfair that I've just received the letter now saying they won't honour the refund.
It does seem a little silly to say 7 days after purchase when it will probably take about that time to get the thing delivered.
Do I have more of a leg to stand on here?0 -
