    Hi all

Mr T cancelled my delivery today:mad:

Rang up and gave me some guff about snow:confused:

Then I met my friend at the shops and she had had her Mr S delivery. Picked the wrong lot didn't I?:wall:

Anyway my Mum is bringing all the vital stuff and the rest I can get at the local shops - it will just take a few trips! I have spent about £40 today and will probably spend about another £50 before Christmas but not much after as we will be using up every scrap!
August Shopping Challenge. 26/8. Budget £250 Spent £256.81.. £6.81 over. So £0.00 a day left.
  • £10 today towards a meal out with friends. over , over , over....
    nov grocery challenge, £.227.69/300, 9/25 nsd: , 7 Cmo, 10 egm.
Me, 10 yo dd, and the dog. all food and drinks, in and out, plus household shopping.

went into mr t to get bread and baking things i needed, and came out having spent £46.22! My bill was pennies short of £40 today too, & there was only a pack of ox liver & another of value quickfry steaks for tonight's stir fry meat-wise; the rest was fruit & veg & four quid on cheese!
....now officially stocked for christmas, in fact, we may be stocked for most of january. Me too...hopefully :o
.... making 'snowpuppies' tomorrow with milkshake flavouring! Sounds interesting--recipe please?

I didn't go out yesterday so had a good thunk about dinner. I dug out a tin of condensed Mediterranean tomato soup, tinned toms, sliced a green pepper & 454g of ham ends. Chopped the ham & toms into bite-size chunks, stir everything together in an oven proof dish, cover & heat thru in the oven. I served it with boiled rice & they loved it :T & have actually asked for it again!
My budget is over & in some part is down to my changing my mind over what should be classed as grocery :doh:but I shall be up & running again by 1st Jan, but on the whole I'm rather chuffed with my efforts this year. Thank You all for your help, encouragement & endless tips & Very Best Wishes for a Happy & Healthy Christmas. x

    hi bigmummaF,
the snowpuppie recipe, a take on slush puppies, in that you put out cups overnight to collect the falling snow, then swirt in either cordial or milkshake syrup to flavour the next day and plonk a straw in. We had run out of syrup so i was going to try and mix the milkshake powder with water then pour it it - might not have gone to plan:cool:.
in the end the snow stopped when i put the cups out so there was no snow in them this morning, but we will try again if it snows again.

I've given up on the GC this month as I've lost track of whats being spent but I'm pretty sure that we'll come in just about on target which I'm quite chuffed about cos its CHRISTMAS

I'm starting afresh from Jan and hitting it hard as I've decided that we don't need the equivalent of 2.5 big freezers so one of the small ones has to go or just be turned off and can sit waiting for next Xmas

£6.27 spend for me today (real value £6.82), which is now included in my signature

Milk (4pt), potatoes (Super 6), carrots (super 6) and vine tomatoes from A!di
Eggs, Mushrooms, and (Whoopsied bakery) bread from Mr M

Need a bit more fresh veg (will probably get another bag of spuds while I'm getting this, just to be sure I've got enough in) for Friday thru Sunday, plus (more) bread, (more) milk, salad items and cream. Also need some meat for sandwiches, and I think that'll be what eats into my budget (planning on deli meat for over Christmas, rather than our normal cheapo ham). Could also do with some 'normal' cheese (as in Cheddar for butties) to be sure we have enough to last....... I have some small pieces of 'special' cheeses in already, but need some biscuits/crackers for those ;)

With 9 days left of the month I still have £54.02 of my monthly/annual GC budget, so things are looking pretty good - just as long as I don't get tempted by too many more Whoopsies (which I don't really have freezer space for anyway) :rolleyes2 This amount equates to almost 35 'people days' of my normal daily budget level, and even with elder DS home on leave I've only 27 'people days' left to cater for - so effectively one persons weekly budget 'to spare' :)

I am back from what I hope to be my final shop of the year in Mr S this morning.

DH has asked BIL over on Christmas Eve but he is undecided if he is coming or not which has left me in a bit of a pickle as I am making dinner for my parents and have had to buy extra veg and a bigger desert just in case. He is coming for Boxing Day as originaly planned as well. I am more than happy for him to come to dinner or even after dinner, but I hate it when people turn up when you are in the middle of eating and you feel you have to rush to finish because they are sat there. Will find out later today but as I was shopping at 8am this morning I have had to buy extra just in case. I am not sure if my parents are staying boxing day so I have also had to buy double meat and veg for then too and an extra desert. The extra will all freeze. My family are not very organised this year are we?:o

Got next year's Christmas cards at Mr S too, half price. I did this last year and it was great knowing I had one less job to do/purchase to make.

Also got a F1nish dishwasher cleaner as nothing I have tried OS so far has cleaned it properly but they are not cheap:eek:

The total is running at £493.71. I appear to have bought a lot of meat this month (and I am the only veggie:rolleyes:) and have 2 full freezers of stuff. Leftovers should feed us until the New Year. I cannot see us needing anything else except some apples for DH as I forgot them today so as long as I am under £500 I am a happy bunny.:D

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all!:xmassign:

What a good idea! My lot might be tempted if we see any more snow :p Being along the South coast makes any we do have a bit scant normally.
Meant to say too that when I was in MrT yesterday [around 4pm] all of their own label bread had sold out & spoke with an assistant who said they were getting very small deliveries compared to a normal week. Call me cynical but is this a ploy to make folk spend £1:46 on a single loaf  Thankfully I discovered the joys of a breadmaker a while ago but thought I'd get a sliced cuz the Offspring prefer that for m@rmite sarnies  & at those prices it would have to be part of their blummin' prezzie before I'd pay that :o

Been food shopping now & pretty pleased as it came to £116.60 :T I have another £10 or so to spend as I want another gammon from the market which DH has just gone to get. I'll add it on if he actually comes back with it  :D By my reckoning this leaves me with £53.54 for next weeks food which should be perfectly do able as there's lots of leftovers on the menu plans.

The hatches are now being battened down and Christmas can start here in the Sunny household :xmassign:

    Have a good time folks!
