DS turned up in Mr M at 2:10pm, so I grabbed my 15 min break in order to select the Whoopsie items I wanted him to purchase. Got round to the meat area as the butcher was just starting reductions, so as he started checking dates at one end of the display I started at the other - and presented him with the items I wanted that were dated for selling before we're next open on Sunday. There wasn't actually a lot - guess they're just too good at ordering and stock rotation :(

DS was mortified that I was doing this - and even more so when I deposited him at a till with no queue, and informed the cashier (one I say hello to on a regular basis) that he would be using my staff discount card ;) (He'd been refusing to as it's got my signature on - but once she'd been told he didn't have a lot of choice :rolleyes2 )

I couldn't pay, as we're not allowed to shop in our short breaks - only our lunch hours..... but this seemed to be an accepted way of managing it :)

I then grabbed some bits from the bakery area before we closed, and the other lady and I dived for purses and tills one at a time..... I'm told a blind eye is turned to this at the end of the day

All in all I managed to grab......

    4 pack pork loin chops [strike]£6.56[/strike] £3.25
    4 pack pork loin chops [strike]£6.27[/strike] £3.15
Rump steak (655g piece that I'll cut into 3 for New Years Day) [strike]£7.52[/strike] £4.59
Lamb joint (shoulder blade side) [strike]£6.47[/strike] £3.99
    2x pack 4 pieces carrot cake [strike]£1.19[/strike] 19p each
    Raspberry trifle [strike]£1.79[/strike] 89p
    Sliced sandwich loaf [strike]£1.10[/strike] 19p
    Stollen [strike]£1.49[/strike] 19p

    So a £16.63 spend on items worth £33.58 :T

I now have just £6.70 left for the rest of the month, but as long as I blinker myself to Whoopsies I can't see why I shouldn't be able to scrape in.........

  • Merry Christmas to everyone - haven't had to go shopping for a good few days now and it looks like today will be another NSD. :) Always good. Let's hope I can make it to the final day of December - nearly there.

    Have a good day everyone.

Well I lost it completely over Christmas (hangs head in shame). Think I've gone a little bit over - not including the Christmas shop. Chrismas shop was a bit OTT BUT OH decided he would buy the food so I'm not including it (is that cheating ?). I'm writing off Christmas and will start again on Monday (when we return from visiting family). So please put me down for £250 again (I'm doing NYK's frugal challenge next year so will set a yearly budget for food - but works out at around £250 per month plus a bit extra )

Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas xx

Merry Christmas, everyone, I hope you all had a great day and that the festive foodstuffs went down a treat. :)

I'm still managing on damage control and, with only 5 more days to go, I am confident that the budget won't be completely blown. My signature is up to date - I have only spent £43.97 this month, so my grocery total for 2009 now stands at £1,245.67 I may pick up a couple of odds and ends like salt (used up most of ours on the frozen path!), fresh veg and milk but, on the whole, I'd have come in well under budget if I hadn't filled the cupboards and freezer with stockpiled bargains. :D
