    Hello everyone,

I hope you don't mind me joining in for the first time. I know it's late and I have probably picked the hardest month to make a start, but waiting until January meant wasting 27 money saving days, so here goes.

My target is £150 grocery shopping for December , that is for two adults and includes toiletries and christmassy treats.

Luckily I have a permanently fully stocked drinks cabinet, and lots of store cupboard staples (pasta, tuna, corned beef ect) which means that my target should be achievable. I can start reducing it from next month. I am writing a shopping list ( a proper one) for the first time in ages and a menu plan. I'm actually quite excited about it- how sad is that?

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to doing this with you all - good luck everybody.

Hi folks, just popping in for a quick read through and an update, I am doing better than i thought i would as seem to be on target this week, have spent £48,08 of my grocery budget so have just under £12 left but need to get coffee, milk, bread, pasta, dishwashing powder and washing up liquid,(wont last until monday without it) really grudge buying it but at least it will do the rest of the month.
Never said previously but my £260 a month (£60pwk) budget is for two adults, 14yro and 11yro and a halfwit spaniel and covers all food, cleaning products and toiletries.
Could have throttled OH as he bought milk from the local shop £1.60ish 2l but if he had just thought to himself he could have popped into Mr T's and got the 3l for £1.20, he WILL learn one day!
    have a good weekend everybody

  • We spent £40 (out of the £100) this week:
£15 at Mr S (some fresh fruits & veg, loads of oats, etc)
£7 at the indian supermarket for a year's worth of garlic, chilli and ginger (yes, £7 for a whole year!)
£18 at the oriental shop for lots of rice noodles, bottle of fish sauce, a kilo of squid (for £5!) and few snacks.

Still have lots of food in the freezer!
  • got no bread, eggs or flour in and Dh getting vexed as he wanted toast & eggs - ooops better go out shopping and get some staples in today! Will be spending about £13
  • Well done nmlc on your weight loss – that’s excellent! I bet you’re looking and feeling great :)
Congrats on the NSD scotsave, mark88man!

Thisismoneysaving MY DS1 loves Reggae Reggae sauce & puts it on most things  but he is a 17yr old with hollow legs so it's good to him on beans on toast :rotfl: My DH quite likes it on cheese on toast & I sometimes serve it in wraps with cooked chicken strips like chicken fajitas but need to do a yoghurt dressing for DD, DS2 & DS3. I love the idea of serving it with cream for a lovely sauce - thanks :D

Well done on your accidental NSD yesterday I hate days like that. At least you didn't go shopping to cheer yourself up ;)

Reggae Reggae on cheese on toast sounds amazing!! Why hadn't I thought of that?! Thanks :D
I've never heard of it! Is it like a caribbean jerk chicken sort of taste?

It says on the bottle that's it's jerk/bbq. It's quite spicy, but has such a lovely flavour... *drools*
I'm in love with Nandos Peri Peri marinade. I just use it like ketchup & coat everything in it - salads, chips, & in sarnies

I love the black Xtreme peri you can get in Nandos restaurants, but can never find it in the shops :(

Oh yes! peri peri is yummy yummy!! :p
We brought some bottles of the marinade before and soaked the chicken in it for hours in the fridge, but once we cooked the chicken it didn't taste Nandos-y at all... did we do something wrong??

We got some great bargains in MrT last night - including a beautiful coat priced at £40 (I should have had better will power:rolleyes:) but when the girl rang it up it was only £20!! :T:j and got some whoopsie rasberries (60p a punnet), chopped onion for the freezer (10p) and diced steak (£1.30 I think)... quite pleased with myself actually! :p

Oh - I think today might be a NSD today... I'm working overtime today so I actually can't go to the shops! :T

Thanks all - you're all really helping me stay on track
    xx
    Trying hard to money save....
  • I shouldn't go near supermarkets, I really shouldn't. I've spent another £11.07 today on some stuff to make Christmas presents on, and a RTC joint of beef - Boxing Day dinner sorted!

I'll amend my total now. Have a good day everyone

    Hello everyone,

I managed to stick to just buying bicarb. yesterday and hopefully today will be a NSD as we are going out with friends for dinner tonight, so no cooking either:j
I made some sticky ginger cake yesterday from the Nigella Christmas book, it's really yummy and I have made one for the freezer as well for Xmas, so that's another tick off my to do list. Also ordered my Gammon for Xmas (Not paid for yet though).

Just need to update my list of things I already have stored and those I still need to get.

    Have a good weekend everyone!
