Call 1899/18185 problem!

I have just tried to make a call from my Call1899 account and I get a recorded message to inform me that my account may be blocked. The message states that although I have paid for all outstanding bills on this account I may not have paid a bill on another account like 18866. I have also tried to make a call from Call 18185 and get the same message.

All my payments for all my accounts are up to date. Has anyone else experienced this?

No but, when you get it sorted, can I recommend changing to Direct Debit. I did that a few months ago and, apart from the peace of mind of having ceased the previous continuous credit card authority, I now know I have the protection of the DD Guarantee.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I have a similar problem, I can't sign up to 1899 cos it says I have an outstanding account with them or 18866. I emailed both 1899 and 18866, 1899 said I did not have an account with them, which I don't, 18866 said I had closed my account and did not owe them any money, but I still cannot register with 1899, so I'll just keep using 18185.
I did have a problem a while ago when I changed from credit card to direct debit on 18866, but they eventually found the payment I had made by direct debit.

CCCA is not the same as Direct Debit.

    Not the same thing.

DD allows you to cancel payments going out, and has a scheme that protects you should something goes wrong.

CCCA you can't stop payments going out, you are at the mercy of the company taking payments out, there is no scheme to cover you when there are problems.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

  • I've always had a direct cebit with 1899 and no problems whatsoever. I'd rather have DD, as I can cancel it when i want, rather the Credit Card when they can take whatver they want!

I've been trying to register with both 1899 & 18185 today without success.

I want to pay by Direct Debit but, after I have filled in all the details on the DD page and clicked on 'Next', it keeps coming back with:

"Attemp to verify sort code/ accountnumber failed, please try submitting again !"

Anyone else had a problem recently?
Also, I can't find a way to contact them. Any ideas?

Welcome to the MSE forums speedyrite.

    IIRC, their systems require:

Sort code - 6 digits without spaces.

Account number - 8 digits without spaces.

Could either of those be the problem?

    Edit 13:44

No, that can't be it. I've just looked and their online form has 6 boxes and 8 boxes respectively so you can't make an error there.

I've had the same problem in trying to input the correct sort code and a/c no. in the DD page for call 1899 this afternoon.

Have e-mailed them to inform them of the problem but no reply yet.
