    My rant for the day....

My heating is beggered! Going to have to be a phone call to the HA in the morning..

In the meantime, I have had the tumble dryer going as that produces a little bit of heat, the oven on with the door open and my little electric heater running.

Oh poor you - what a total nightmare!

Has it warmed up at all near you?

It was a leetle bit warmer here - 0 degrees, rather than - something.

Still, definitely not no heating kind of weather.

We had this last winter - our heating broke down and our dear, sweet, good landlord took 2 effing weeks to fix it.

We asked on freecycle for portable heaters - didn't occur to our landlord this might be a nice gesture  - and a mate of mine who saw the request actually came round and gave us 2 that same day.

Expensive to run, but at least not quite so freezing.

I've just been given an electric blanket. Seems prettty good - no idea if it's hideously expensive to run, though?

    Anyone know?

Probably, and I always worry really dangerous too! But then I don't have a gas cooker for the same fear :o

We're are just about managing with it and the HA are usually very good at sending out engineers to sort things out.

If they can't get out tomorrow (they see it as a priority fix), then I can always borrow my parents heaters they use in their caravan...it's a pain but having grown up in a house with no central heating, I am better able to cope with not having it.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Heavens carol didn't realise they still made them. Are they safe if you wet the bed?

    I'm pleased to say I don't wet the bed...honest. :p

Have to say that had never occured to me. But I am likely to have DS wet the bed (though fingers crossed he's past that stage) or spill a cup of tea or something...

    Could that be dangerous?

That does bring back one funny-in-retrospect but terrifying at the time event - my DD2, then aged about 2, and at the undressing stage, weed on the old stereo in the girls' room on the floor. I came in just in time to see a flash and a puff of smoke. Mercifully, she wasn't hurt, though the stereo was a goner.

Yes, liquid on an electric blanket is a definite no no. Hope the one you've been given is new, as well !!

Other than that, they are cheap to run and VERY cosy.

Anyway, now I've got that off my chest :D, I'll change subject, anyone know where I might find a cheap desk with quite a bit of storage/ shelfing? I remember seeing some good solutions in last years ikea catalogue, but the website is quite hard to navigate, so I can't seem to find similar on there ATM...?

Need a home for maybe 100 books, 200 DVDs, 200 CDs, maybe a shelf for several bottles of spirits :o:cool:, the obligatory few photos/ candles/ vases, a naff buddha illegally smuggled out of Thailand, & a tower and monitor?

Just looking for something on there myself - how about this?

    http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/20116071

Or for lots and lots of stuff:

    Not so cheap, though.

Ooh good - yes it was new.

Very snuggly. On my side of the bed only, as I am always freezing.

I bought DW an electric pad that covers the upper back and neck. It can be worn under clothing, like a jumper, but it's mains powered, so there's a detachable cable/control unit. It came from Lidl and cost around £15, I think.

While this thing is supposed to be for warming sports injuries etc, it's pretty obvious that most will be purchased by older people with joint pain, or those living in relatively cold houses with draughts. Not sure of the wattage, but I'd imagine it to be pretty economical.

So far, DW hasn't even put it on, which is encouraging in a number of ways, I suppose...:o

You're pyschic! Thats the only one I could find that I liked! Yeah, I was kind of thinking that style, but wanted it all along one wall IYSWIM- not sticking out- its about 3m... hmm, think I will have to order another catalogue, easier to just flick through than trying to search through loads of 'options' online :o

Excellent - seeing your post made me think of looking for a desk for DDs room - hadn't thought of IKEA - they actually had a v nice one that might do. And while I was there, I spotted those which sounded exactly like what you'd described. :)
