Hello all - just thought I'd post to say I've not been around much because I've just got a new job. Wasn't exactly looking for one - just sort of idly googling one morning when bored - found something so local and well-paid it seemed a shame not to go for it. Will fill up most of my spare daytime hours and some of my evenings, so I will be on here less I suspect (certainly during the day). I start tomorrow! Went in today to get a feel for it - all rather sudden as I only found out I'd got it on Friday, needed to produce all my proof of qualifications by Monday morning (despite being away all weekend!), which was entertaining given I haven't seen a couple of the bits of paper in a decade!

Amazingly, found them, got references sorted and ready to start.

Luckily am used to walking in at the deep end initially but it should be an interesting learning curve.

I'm committed to a semester; see how I like it.

    Aaagh...all a bit quick.

Oh well. Money will be nice. Real (as opposed to virtual) water cooler moments will be nice too. Real work colleagues again! Oooh! :)

Just thinking out loud really. I guess in hard times such projects are the first to take a hit. Secure housing projects for young people & addicts/ recovering addicts, crime reduction & homeless outreach .... nobody is going to go round waving placards for mouthy hoodies or washed out alkies are they?

*again, just thinking out loud :-)

    Thanks!

Have to say, I was surprised when I started googling quite how much there was out there, workwise. I hadn't really been making any proper effort to look because I just automatically assumed recession = less jobs = won't find anything suitable.

What I actually found was that since I last looked seriously (about 5 years ago, before I'd got got pregnant with my DS) was that the jobs market had got way more split up, multi-faceted than before; ie where previously there used to be just a couple of agencies I used who covered most of the posts, now there are literally dozens of agencies splitting up the work, many of whom I hadn't heard of, or didn't know they recruited in my area. As I'd just looked in the places I used to work through, I'd missed all these other jobs out there advertised elsewhere.

There's actually loads of stuff out there, including non-teaching stuff I could easily do too. Contemplated them; but the rate on this one was too good to pass up by comparison.

I suppose you're a dab hand at knowing where to look for jobs, PN; but do take heart from the fact there clearly is stuff out there. And a shortage of good people to do them.
