advice needed if anyone can help please!

Hello! I sold my pram and car seat recently on ebay (sent it via courier 10 days ago), the buyer has just gotten in touch to say it is dirty, ripped and they want a part refund. When it left me the covers etc were freshly washed, the chassis was clean, it was all lovely.

what are my options here? She's had the pram long enough to have damaged or dirtied it herself, but I know paypal often come down against the seller.

Can anyone help please?

  • just to add, I've replied to the buyer requesting photos of where she is saying it is dirty and of where she is saying it is torn, as I'm quite confused, due to it being fine and danddy when it left me.
  • The buyer keeps telling me they will 'settle' without going to dispute?! So far no pics have been sent. Could anyone please advise me i've never had a disgruntled customer before!
  • please coud someone advise?!

If she goes to dispute and wins she will be told to return at her cost for a full refund. I assume via the size it won't be the cheapest thing to return.

It sounds like she is after something. You have a couple of options you can call her bluff and say return for a refund (she may just give up then)> Or you can just ay no and if she wins a dispute she will be told to return for a full refund anyway. Or you could just give a partial (which I wouldn't personally do)

Difficult one. I would probably ask her to return it for a refund and see what happens
  • Thanks so much for your advice Cyberbob! she has said she will send photos of the apparent damage, i've also asked (out of curiosity), what she would like by way of partial refund.

Can i just ask as well, if I tell her to send it all back for a full refund and it arrives back damaged, where do i stand? I won't be able to resell it on then but assumably, paypal would give her her money back?

That's the danger with accepting returns from buyers who are maybe being dishonest who you push into a corner...force them to return and I'll bet they 'damage' it before returning it.

I believe you when you say it was fine and dandy when you sent it. I suspect the buyer is trying to rip you off (with so much protection for buyers on eBay, they make it easy for them to do sadly and lot's of dishonest people out there, as I have found to my cost) and if you ask them to return for a full refund, you will get it back, damaged (spitefully, as they have had to pay a fortune to return it and they have no pram, get a refund but have to pay extortionate return postage) adn then you will refund them. You end up with a ruined items/s and cannot sell them on. It's a touch one and I have no idea what to advise. If you give a partial refund, as they are demanding (almost) they get money off they don't deserve, you lose money which is wrong and unfair. If they return it, you end up losing. No win situation. You got a bad buyer and either way you lose. This is what is bad about eBay. I'm sorry you are in this position. Maybe over all it would be best to offer them £10, at least that way you get to keep some of the money they paid you, rather than refunding and ending up with a damaged item returned. I'm going round in circles here thinking about it, I bet you are deciding what to do :(

indeed I am going around in circles! i'd planned to do all my cleaning today then take my little 5 month old swimming. This has come to my attention this morning and I've wasted all my time worrying about it and responding to this horrible person.

I feel like just closing my ebay and paypal accounts before she has a chance to scam me. i only sell to make a little extra in my very rare spare time, this is not worth the hassle!

Ah well, you live and learn! Thank you for your reply xxx

    Indeed SB I am goin

Try not to let it spoil eBay for you. There are thousands of great/decent/honest buyers out there who appreciate the wonderful finds and treasures they find on eBay. I myself buy more than I sell and a few months ago an item I bought didn't arrive. I put in a paypal claim, got refunded by the seller and that was that. Two weeks later it turned up. I called Paypal and emailed the buyer. Paypal said it was all done and dusted, not their problem (?) and so I myself sent a paypal payment to the seller. I would never have dreamed of keeping the item and not paying. The seller thanked me and said he was amazed I was so honest and didn't just keep it free. That says a lot about what sellers have to put up with. But hopefully your next buyer will be like me, and they'll love what you send and leave you glowing feedback. One bad apple can spoil a cart, it's so true, but hope you try again sometime and you find a nice buyer. That one sounds a right chancer!

Hi guys, I have, throughout the course of the day, given this customer 3 different email addresses to send the photos of this so called damage to, but each one she says is not working?! I have checked all three and sent mail to each one myself and they're all fine so I'm really starting to think she's trying to scam me.

what on earth can I do to protect myself? If she opens a paypal dispute and I ask for photographic evidence of the damage on there and she doesn't provide it, will she still win?

I have offered her a £10 gooodwill gesture to see what she says, but I don't think she'll take it as she's asked for £25 - £30. If she did accept this, could she still launch a paypal claim against me further down the line?

What would happen if i just closed my paypal account? Seems drastic but I'm really wound up by this woman now!

if she says she'll send the pram back and it either arrives back wrecked or she sends an inferior item or an empty box, would I have any comeback with paypal?

Sorry for all the questions I'm just really fed up!
  • oh, one final question, I have photographs of the pram and car seat here myself, from when I was listing - could I use this in my favour in the event of a paypal claim?
