  • purpleivy - I think the cream tea idea is a good one - I could give a nod of respect to the locals by including some Normandy cream with the scones.
See above reply to motherhen though - sponges are out!

    Thanks again

  • I made the trifles in small one scoop ice cream tubs. Covered the top with lots of 100s and 1000s. Put the lid on and cellotaped a spoon to the top of each.

I guess most will like jam and scones though? Maybe jam tarts is a bit more childish then ...
Flap jacks would be good but no idea how to make them and I'm not sure if I can find oats here (if indeed flapjacks need oats!?)

That is soooo sweet bunny too and sounds great - thanks for the idea x
I think it'll be too much hassle for school though (lazy mummy).

It's between scones, jam tarts and flapjacks at the moment

  • Thanks robpw I did think about rice krispie/corn flake cakes but wasn't sure how 'typically English' they are

ugh! I'm going to stock up on jelly when I come home at christams to cover all possible snack dilemmas in 2010 :p

  • thriftlady - I think mince pies are a great idea, my daughter loves them. Can I make my own mince filling? never made them before :o
Goodness, absolutely. It's a complete doddle-no cooking just mixing. It needs a couple of weeks to mature though. Google a recipe or search on here. Not sure how easy it is to get prepared suet (graisse de rognon) in France but you can leave that out. It does have alcohol in of course but I always used to supply hm mince pies for my kids' school Christmas parties when they were quite little and never had any complaints or problems.
