Ok once its installed you'll need to scan the computer with it however it will probably need to update windows. This may take a long time with a lot of reboots but worth doing. Once its done post back and I'll take you though the last parts you'll need to do.

and also go to www.windowsupdate.com and update to Service Pack 3 and Internet explorer 8

i have clicked on here, and downloaded IE8 - got as far as computer restarting. It says i then need to open IE and click on tools, window update - but i cant see where i open IE from? I thought there would be a desktop icon or something? Or listed in the programme list - but when i click there (think it is the old version as it appears half way though the list of programmes) i dont seem to get anywhere??

If you go into the start menu and Programs "Windows Update" should be list near the top click on it and you should be able to update from there.

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

What you can try:

bullet.png You are not connected to the Internet. Check your Internet connection.

bullet.png Retype the address.

bullet.png Go back to the previous page.

Most likely causes:

• You are not connected to the Internet.
• The website is encountering problems.
• There might be a typing error in the address.
up.png More information

This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including:
• Internet connectivity has been lost.
• The website is temporarily unavailable.
• The Domain Name Server (DNS) is not reachable.
• The Domain Name Server (DNS) does not have a listing for the website's domain.
• If this is an HTTPS (secure) address, click tools, click Internet Options, click Advanced, and check to be sure the SSL and TLS protocols are enabled under the security section.
For offline users
You can still view subscribed feeds and some recently viewed webpages.
To view subscribed feeds
1. Click the Favorites Center button favcenter.png, click Feeds, and then click the feed you want to view.
To view recently visited webpages (might not work on all pages)
1. Click Tools tools.png, and then click Work Offline.
2. Click the Favorites Center button favcenter.png, click History, and then click the page you want to view.
