virus help

i am appealing for some help - in a very easy, non technical kind of language:o

My computer apparantly has 34 of infected files (this is actually my daughter's computer - my laptop is away being fixed). I cant get on the internet my normal way, and have to go through firefox??

There is Nortan antivirus on here, but it is showing as out of date (2006 i think). I think it is possible to download free anti virus software, but i dont have any idea on what or even how to do this. Would this fix the existing problems, or simply guard against new ones?

When i click on the windows security alert, it takes me to a virus scanning page (how i know there is 34) but in order for that to fix the viruses, it charges $48. There must be a cheaper way??

I really apologise about the appalling lack of technical speak here - as you can see, i am so not technical:o

Go to http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?part=dl-10804572&subj=dl&!!!!!button and download the free version of malwarebytes install it do an update and run a full scan and delete everything it finds by following the instructions. Then go to http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html and do the same except for superantivirus.

Firefox is ok for connecting to the internet btw.

Once all thats done download this http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/ and run a scan with it and post the output log here.

First up, those windows alerts are FROM the virus, so whatever you do dont click on them! (And sure as hell dont get your credit card out)

Running malwarebytes on a FULL scan (Make sure you UPDATE the database first) will hopefully remove most of it

HIJACK THIS will then show us whats running

When you get the all clear you then need to use the NORTON REMOVAL TOOL and put on a free anti virus (We'll sort that out at the end)

Do what asininity and aliEnRIK have suggested, do it now, do not open the virus windows.

If you're in firefox go to tools and downloads and it should be listed there double click it.

Ok reboot the computer press F8 during the start and boot into "Safe Mode with Networking".

See if it works now. If not download HijackThis as mentioned above and run a scan and post the log.
