Hi ally :) Well done for canceling sky, I'm afriad we had the same problems with freeview and even a booster didn't help - we're just in a bad area. In the end we paid for a freesat box which has worked a treat and we paid extra for the one that records, pauses live tv etc. Just so you've got all the options.

    Hi all,

Well I messed around with the telly at the weekend, really p****d me off I'm afraid. After cleaning the connection and then retuning, all the channels were there, yay :j. But .... after sitting watching my favs on itv 1 for about an hour it disappeared???? I haven't a clue what happened, have tried retuning and they all disappeared again!!! So went and had a look at the boosters but the store had all sold out so will have to wait to get one and see what that does. :(

Went spending on garden stuff on sunday though, used some cash that I had been given as a gift at xmas so really enjoyed that spending spree and the sun afterwards.

Grocery spends so far this month was £29/£150 which included all of Aprils cleaning/laundry/toiletries/freezer stuff.

Two more months till car loan gone, am counting down the days, can't wait.......:D

Oh the joys of diy. :D

Morning all, well a dismal day here today, very cloudy and cold, I wish the sun would come back.

I'm feeling really guilty at the moment because I've gone and bought a couple of items online which I did really want at the time but now feel as if I shouldn't have got them because of the cost, if you know what I mean?

I have really started to enjoy my garden and last week bought a couple of azaleas full of bright pink flowers and they really looked lovely, that was my late xmas gift so it was ok. But I have always liked those water feature things that you see and when I was looking online I saw one that was the small pots in bright blue ceramic that trickles down into a big ceramic bowl and I bought it! I suppose it was expensive at £50 but its a solar powered one and I thought it would look nice against my azaleas but why do I feel so guilty now at the cost? When I unpacked it last night, I looked at it and thought £50, I could have put that on the m2 or put it in the food budget and the excitement of getting it just disappeared which is a shame. The other thing I bought is a fire pit at £30, that was ordered this morning and again, I'm now deliberating whether I ought to have???????????? but the thought of sitting there in the dark with a nice warm fire one weekend is heaven!

I absolutely love sitting out in the garden at all hours with a cuppa tea just listening to the birds, I did last weekend with all my tea lights lit. The pond fountain was running and it was so relaxing. My kids both think I'm mad as a hatter to do that though. I was going to use the money I've saved from not paying council tax and water rates to pay for these items which is sitting in my sav act but why oh why do I feel so guilty?? I want to get some other bits for the garden as well unfortunately. I want a water butt, a rain cover for my 3 seater swing hammock and some more plants. I absolutely adore rhodedendrons and azaleas and anything with colour. I think my weakness is my garden, I don't drink or smoke or go out, I've cut back on other luxuries so please tell me this is ok so I don't feel so bad?????????
  • hi Ally,

Just caught up on your thread.

Don't let one blip get you down, it is too easy to slip up and buy something you "wanted" rather than "needed".

    Hi ally :)

A fire pit at £30 is a good buy :) I won't scare you as to how much we spent on ours! But we use it all the time so our guilt is lessened.

Just promise me you won't go to any garden shows if you're trying not to spend money :o I, ahem, spent £250 at the Malverns a few years ago on plants.

Hiya smlsave & lincoln-potter, hope you both are well.

Thanks for your comments. I have got the returns details for the water urn (just in case my guilt gets the better of me tomorrow), going to think about it a bit more.

I wasn't going to use that money for anything specific, it was going to stay for 'just in case' money so I guess its not a debt but ooooh dear, my conscience isn't half getting to me :rotfl:and the urn will look nice, it'll be relaxing to listen to with some new plants around it????

I am good with buying plants, I always look around and buy the cheapest I can. I set a limit in my mind for this and I can stick to it fortunately each visit..........I just happen to make lots of visits :D

Maybe xmas could come early this year, and my bday and ............
  • Dont beat yourself up for splashing out a little. After all, you are a MFW not a DFW !
I think we are all guilty of geting so wrapped up in this MFW lark that we forget we are allowed to treat ourselves from time to time.

Well, I looked at my figures for my m2 and I've already knocked off 3.7 yrs of my 28 year term since it started in 08 so that's not too bad. I've been playing around with my mortgage calculator and IF I can stick to paying off what I want to from June and IF the mortgage rate stays the same, I could get that m2 paid off 261 months early, which would be around Aug 2015. :j Wouldn't that be fab, then I could start and op my m1.

But, not going to think that far ahead yet. I plan to achieve my first target of reaching £14k by Dec 11 first and will then set a new target for 2012. :A

    Have a good weekend all.

    Ally

ps going to have a glass of wine in front of the firepit on sat. If it rains will be under the umbrella! Still thinking about the water urn!

You need some treats ally. If you don't smoke or drink, where is the harm in it? I think nothing of £5 a weekend on wine, and i refuse to cut back so much to the bone that i am not enjoying it.

Your garden sounds lovely, and you have been quite restrained i think. Just spread out getting the stuff you need and look for bargains.
