Hi all,
Well last month has been and gone with not too many problems, thankfully.
Got grocery spend to £195/210 budget for Jan so carry over £15 for this month. Have stocked up on toiletries, choc biscuits and crisps so far for Feb!
Diesel spend was £34/40 so carry over £6. Saved this money by washing the car myself! Took an hour, had to sellotape part of the hose together to make it reach around the car but car was lovely and shiny for about 3 hrs in total.
First month of bills, xmas, hols money put away in new bank acts. Just had first month with new elect & gas suppliers and new tariffs. Elect came in at £60 for Jan usage on a £40 DD per month so £20 owing. Just waiting for gas figure now on a £30 DD per month. But have not paid Dec DD of £70 as had a high credit balance left on old supplier so this leaves £50 extra which will go in leccy/gas savings act if not needed for gas. Phew!!0 -
Final gas bill in from old supplier at £40. Not too bad I think, so £10 left to go in electric/gas savs pot. New supplier tariff is cheaper so now waiting to see what first bill from them will be but can't access online account for another 2 weeks, grr!0

Having a bit of a down day today so thought I would post.
Feeling like time is moving so slowly from each pay day to another and theres nothing I can do about it but to wait. The waiting is so bad though.
I've said this before, theres nothing else I can do to up my income at present so my budgeting remains the same though all the costs for everything are going up and I can't stop it, its so frustrating at times.
Currently waiting to find out what the council tax bill is going to be for this year, also the water rates. Can't do anything about that!
Done what I can to get lowest tarriff for elect and gas.
Already been told that virgin costs are going up so I now have to consider downgrading on that or it going completely. I'm paying nearly £600 a year for small bb, cable tv and a landline I don't want!!! Our tv is tbh the one luxury we have as me and the kids have now started to have our girly nights at weekends where we stay in and watch tv with snacks. Before we would have gone to the pics once a month. Will have to go down a level now, we just have xl at the mo, no films etc.
Broadband we have to keep because the youngest kids have to do their homework on it, thanks teachers!
Eldest child loses EMA this year so will now be subsidising her travel costs so she stays at college.
Fed up of food costs going up one week and then changing another week, wish the supermarkets would make their minds up and stop playing games with shoppers!
Decided to cut the holiday fund too. Xmas budget stays the same.
Diesel is up and budget doesn't last a month now, last months fill up of £34 lasted 3 weeks. It just makes a difference when you start to see the physical sides of all the increasing costs. I'm not increasing my diesel budget, the car usage is just going to have to lower. I've been comparing the cost of using public transport to get to my local towns and to see my parents and its just unbelievable and impossible (1 train and 1 tram each way) so having the car is a godsend and a luxury I know but if the car goes, then so does a lot of personal freedom and whats the use of living if you don't have the chance to enjoy it and do what you want to do, when you want to?
Rant over.
Sorry0 -
We are definitely all in the same boat with costs going up so much. Fuel wise, we prioritise DH getting to work in his car, and mine gets a small amount of fuel in that i try to make last as long as possible so i walk where i can.
Food i am trying to make more veggie meals or at least stretch the meat we have. I've been using the grocery challenge to try and help me there.
Our phone/TV/broadband costs have crept up from about £25 per month to nearer £35. Some of it is me ringing my family more as i haven't had chance to go and see them.
All you can do is keep trying to be pro-active and manage where you can, like you say using the car for the journeys that can't be made in another way.
Life should be a little fun, and i know what you mean about living pay day to pay day. I feel like i always juggle my way so we are about even by next payday, and then it starts again. But, i keep thinking there are some who can't even juggle and stay in credit, so at least we are lucky that way.
I hope you feel less down about it soon.

Hi Michelle,
I seem to do this ranting more and more now don't I, you wouldn't think it but I'm normally a placid person, typical Librian, anything for a quiet life but this government and the i****ts that run our country really get my goat!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know about anyone else but every time there is news on the tv about such and such cuts, and bonus's, and whos made what profits, I end up storming out of the room.
I want to physically hit out at all MPs and say to them, start getting this country in order. I have never felt this way before, I've always been not really interested in politics and the way the country is run but now, its about time we British stood up for what we want like other countries do!!!!!!!!!!
Oh dear, really must get back into my hole before I start on about the local council and how is my council tax paying for my services whilst its sitting in their bank accounts in other countries???????
Phew......................................................
I am now calm and collected and back to being ally instead of Ms Hyde. :rotfl:
I think we need a ranting post, just to go on and air our particular rant for the day or I need a punching bag. Mmmm wonder if theres one with a certain someone's face on that I would like to give a smack to but trouble is, it would need quite a few faces on it!
Hi LP,
Thanks for the positive comment, not normally like this.0
