Lol I finished it except the zip. No you only need to have one item to pass, but she likes us to do at least 2 to gain confidence.

Well done on the skirt Tete, it looks great!

Can I see the cottage please?! I'm not even bothering looking at RightMove - it's too depressing as everything is so expensive!

Sounds sensible with your money plans, good luck with your book challenge! I'm not reading anything at the moment - too busy!

  • I'll send you a PM Zig, hope you're OK, is uni still manic? This place is quite expensive, but as I've said before we don't want to buy in the forseeable future so we're happy to pay a bit more for a place that we'll be living in long-term, we want somewhere nice. Hoping to make progress on this tonight after we do some sums, I want to go and see it!! (Here I am saying it's expensive, and every time I send it to someone down south they gasp at how cheap it is :D)

Honestly I think its expensive knowing the area, you can get much bigger for cheaper just doing a quick RM search, but its what suits you and you seem really keen on this one. It sounds daft but have you considered a 3 bed in Billingham itself which seem to be about £100 cheaper a month and you could have a room set up with all your sewing and crafty stuff all the time. Cute is nice but cluttered is a nightmare! Is the price for furnished or unfurnished as this will usually alter the price by about £100 a month. Have you driven down there to check the parking situation at night? With no private parking this might be an issue. Other thing to consider is that there is no front garden, if you're used to it fair enough, but I've only lived in one house with no front garden and I hated it, kids used to bang on the windows, and everyone who walked past stared right in, ended up always having the curtains drawn just for some privacy! Just some things to consider when you look around anyway, only you know the right decision for you. x

The last time I looked in Billingham, the houses in the nicer parts were around £700 per month. You're right I might just be getting excited about this place because we've only really looked at two so far. Landlord is flexible on furniture and we were thinking about offering to furnish it ourselves anyway as that might make landlords (in general) more lenient about the cat situation (how could anyone refuse my little kitties? Sob!)

As for the front garden thing, OH's parents live on a street with no front gardens and I don't think I would like that, but in this case it really is a tiny village, there's a green out the front of the house so the only people who'd be walking past would be the neighbours going into their houses. I don't think parking would be a problem - doubt we'd be able to park outside our door but wouldn't be far away...

Just had a quick look on RM and for the same price you can get a big 3 bedroomed house but it's unfurnished and on a busy dual carriageway ... £100 per month less will get you an unfurnished three bedroom terrace in a very dodgy area - my Grandma's road in fact, where she once opened her curtains to find a naked man in her back garden, and someone once hid from the police in her wheelie bin. So if we can get them down to £600 pm for this cottage, furnished, I think it's a bit of a bargain...

(Sorry thinking out loud there :o)

I LOVE the house Tete! (Sorry, all these comments probs don't help!) The kitchen is gorgeous and exactly the kind of thing I want. Especially the village-y type place it sounds like!

Uni isn't too manic at the mo, I just seem to be very busy! Gonna go update my diary in a mo - it's been a bit neglected! :p

oooh all this house talk - very exciting! I would like a look-see if possible? I promise I won't steal it! I dont even know where billingham is! (well I do now, I just googled - I thought you guys all lived well nearer my bf! its about 2 hours though wow) Sewing, yeah I love it, I just really make clothes though for myself and I like to do it with my mum. I only sew here at college as I dont have a machine :( or the space really but college is a way to support uni and let me be a little creative (I should get going, it starts at 6 - think I'm gonna be late :( ) I just scrounge fabric from anywhere its great! I know I said about curtains before but you do have to be careful because they are sometimes sized which makes them feel stiff and rigid which might affect the drape. Duvet covers are good, especially for retro cartoons and all the stuff from my childhood!!
  • Ooh I hadn't thought of cartoon duvet covers! Yeah the curtain I've got is quite thick ond stiff, but I'm just making a straight A-line skirt with it so hopefully it'll be ok. Will send you a PM. Where's your boyfriend? Was it Sheffield or somewhere? A lot of people think they're Up North when they're really not! Even from where I live the border is a good couple of hours' drive away.
