I'm sure you didn't really SAY that to her ;)

I know what you mean though, we run the show anyway so why not just leave us to it? *roll eyes*

Well I didn't say the very last bit to her, I stopped after the 'OH MY GOD ARE YOU STU..... kidding?'!, but I said it all to her manager! I also spat my dummy out and said that if they don't trust me with the job then she can do it full time and we'll see how many mistakes get made! Sometimes it just isn't worth trying to help if people think you're too stupid to do it without being checked up on all the time! She'll notice a difference in the job once I stop working on it, I've made it easy for her so far... now I'm feeling very evil and plan on making it harder! Mwahaha! It looks like my boss will be going on early maternity leave now since she's been hospitalised for high blood pressure and she was pretty much the only reason I've stayed sane in here so it's definitely time to get out!

Well get looking Birdie, but I think at the moment we should be grateful we have jobs at all :(

    - Find holiday insurance
    - Drop off the binbag of gran's old clothes at charity shop, been in boot for two weeks! - Keep forgetting to do this!
    - Ironing
    - Hem dress
    - Try and finish Amber Spyglass
    - Change Money
    - Pack
    - Charge Camera
    - Put some more songs on ipod
    - Check what I have in the way of plasters etc
    - Top coat on toenails and fingernails
    - Give monobrow a tidy
    - Decant shampoos etc
    - Buy shorts for OH and sandals for me
    - Visit granny
    - Buy enough cat litter and food for when I'm away
    - Pump up tyres (find out PSI they should be!) and fill up car

Well I feel like I'm getting there, but more things keep adding themselves to my list. OH could make hide nor hair of the insurance either so need to have a look today for a cheap 10-day policy to make sure we're covered.

Got my DS charging at home and got my ipod plugged into my work computer all day today so that should be nice and charged up too. Not going to get Amber Spyglass finished but taking it with me so hopefully will get it done with once and for all!

Going to try and work extra hard today so I can have a half day tomorrow. Pay day tomorrow thank god, I actually had to raid my £2 coin owl this morning so I'd have enough money to buy a jacket potato :(

These are the sandals I'm going to buy tomorrow, as long as they still have my size. I really like the salmony coloured ones too but don't think I have that much to go with them. Dress is going well, it fits OK-ish, just have to lop the bottom off and put a hem on so hopefully that'll be a half hour job tonight. Going to see the new baby tonight though so hope I don't end up out too late.

Aww nice sandals Tete. What about the blue ones? They're the colour of your wedding shoes. I like the salmon too but I always end up with something black or grey

It's so exciting to be going on holiday. Just a few days until you go! My OH says Menorca is gorgeous. It's so cool you'll be going around the markets speaking Spanish. Tasty olives, jamon and chorizo....

I'm getting excited about holidays too - just got to get my evil presentation done on Monday at the summer conference. On Tuesday I chair a session which is a bit scary. We are also going on a field trip to the Lake District, feels like school or something. But I've never been to the Lakes before so I am quite excited to see what all the fuss is about :D We are also doing a Mobile Methods demonstration, so we'll be wandering about with GPSs. GPSs? Is that even a word?! Anyway I won't get lost so that's good as my sense of direction is appalling. We go to Malta on Friday next week.

On money news, I have splurged further. But I did get a refund of half my fees from uni, as the other half are paid for by the scholarship money. Remember this time last year when I was MSing my backside off at bl00dy Subway for £3 a time? Well I have bought this with my hard earned cash. Yaaay! Plus a Kenwood Chef off Gumtree, as I would really like to make my own sausages with the weeird squirty out sausage machine attachment. It's a 1960s one like my Mum has when we were growing up, so quite cool. Considering the new ones are £255  I thought that was quite MSE.

Sorry to hear about your carp work Birdie. Seems like you're well overdue a promotion. You should definitely have a look around and see what's out there. Have a fab day ladies.

Oooh, swit swoo! And Habitat no less! Lovely, makes up for all the Subways eh (ick)? Do NOT like the sound of the 'squirty sausages' though!!!

The Lakes are lovely, I go all the time and am still amazed every time I go that I'm actually in England, they're so beautiful :)

I liked the blue sandals too but they don't have them in my shoppe here, so black it is, probably wouldn't wear the blue ones all that much either.

 indeed, though I think there might be a lot of pescaito frito rather than chorizo - blegh. Hope you enjoy Malta as I won't 'see' you. We were looking at that as an option but you can't seem to fly there from near here

Ooh, nice table, Lara! It does go some way to making up for all those Subs, but I'm with Tete on the squirty sausages  However, I'm SO in the market for a Kenwood or Magimix type splurge. It will be the perfect finishing touch for my kitchen :D I do have a bit of spare cash from selling some non-sentimental gold that my Grandma left me on the condition that it was used for something frivolous (I miss my Grandma :() and I think a £300 kitchen implement is fairly frivolous! But I'm also thinking it might go towards my NYC trip for my 30th next year... TBH, it's not an unpleasant decision to make, but I'm undecided!

And nice sandals too, Tete! Will your maxi be the first item of clothing you've made that's made it out? That's super cool!

I'd love to spend some more time at the Lakes, such a beautiful part of the country! I'm v envious of your Med holidays, although I know I don't deserve to go anywhere else this year (;)) and we were looking at somewhere in the UK for a week, but it would be just as expensive as going abroad, so we're staycationing and holding out for Paris in September.

Sorry for thread hijack Tete - it seems like everyone's out of the office today and I'm feeling chatty!

ETA: Ha, it wasn't as long as I was expecting!

But I did mean to say, I feel for you Birdie :( Sounds like you need to get out if you can! Otherwise just focus on doing the best job you can and making sure your boss is aware of it, while resisting the urge to moan and rant about your inept colleagues!

Yes definitely starts to make up for all the Subway trauma! Can only afford Habitat secondhand on ebay though, it's quite overpriced otherwise I think.

Ahhh of course it will be pescaito frito, bummer. Do you like prawnies though Tete? I like them okay, basically put a bit of garlic butter on something and I'll eat it. You'll be drinking nice wine too, mmm  I'm still jealous. OH wanted to go to San Sebastian but it was eyewateringly expensive. Poddle, at least we are getting the good weather at the moment. Would you be able to do some camping? I know it's a love or hate it thing. I think OH was about to spontaneously combust or sink into a blue funk before we booked the holiday. Hopefully a vitamin D overdose will be good, his usual colour is white with a grey/green reflection of computer-monitor glow! :rotfl:

Paris in September will be glorious Poddle. We are planning a weekend then too, before I head off to Uganda for 2 months  It's such a wonderful city to hang around in. Oooh NYC is a great idea for your 30th, how cool! You could get a newer secondhand Kenwood off ebay for £100 and then put the rest to your hols? I have seen some great deals on Gumtree they seema bit cheaper on there.

I'm feeling chatty too today. I'm back in my old work covering as everyone has gone to Glastonbury. It's dead here with no work to do yippeee! Am going to do some college work too, I promise.

Thanks for the sympathy! I think you're right, I just have to keep my head down, do what I do properly and keep looking for opportunities elsewhere. They're talking about merging my dept with another one which is headed by someone who is 5 years younger than me and sometimes so stupid it makes my brain hurt; if she's in charge of me after this merger I'll be climbing the walls! But on the bright side I'll be in an office with windows! :)

I'm liking the sandals Tete, it's funny that you girls say you you tend to stick to black and grey etc, I think I've got every colour but black! I'm not very good at getting the basics to go with everything, I'm more of a 'Ooooh pretty colour, must have it!' person then worry about how to tie the outfit together later!

I'm jealous of the holiday talk... only 233 days till I go! Hope you have a lovely time Tete! Oooh and the Lakes are lovely, you'll see what the fuss is about Lara!

ETA: I meant to say that I love driving over to the Lakes from home as we go through the Dales to get there, 2 fantastic drives in one! Green hill overload!

A woman at work has a sausage maker and she makes some lovely sausages with it, she'll bring tasters in sometimes and they're yummy! If I had the room I'd want a fancy Kenwood chef thingy with all the attachments!

I definitely want all the attachments! I want the classic pentagon K-blade, dough hook - yes please! I even want an unidentifiable bit that I'll never use for posterity :D

Seeing that we're all in a chatty mood, can I tell you what we're doing in our kitchen and why I'm super excited! We're filling in the doorway to the lounge that doesn't get used - it just has our bins and recycling in front of it - which will create quite a big alcove, and using left over worktop to create a deep shelf at worktop height and a couple more shelves above almost like a dresser. We'll keep the bins and stuff underneath and I'm looking for some fabric to create a skirt under the worktop to hide it away. What do you reckon? Do you think it sounds a bit naff?

So we've got lots to keep us busy, even if we take a week off work. If the weather holds, we may go camping or may just pretend we're on holiday and explore Sussex by day and whack up the food budget and cook new and adventurous recipes by night. We can always camp in the back garden :rotfl:

Ah bless your OH, Lara - the sun does wonders! People are in unnervingly good moods all the time :D

Birdie, I don't have any black shoes either! Or black trousers!

Is that what she said? :D Fab! I had wanted one of those K-mix thingies for a while but then I sort of thought about it and thought that then baking would just consist of measuring ingredients and pouring them into the mixer and it felt not as satisfying :o They do look fabulous though.

I really like the sound of your kitchen! If you look about on the net youcan always find lots of kitsch kitcheny type fabrics - with teapots on etc. How about something like this from Patch Fabrics?

    EDGYVEGGIE(3).JPG

Or were you going for a more sophisticated look?! :D

Don't you live in Brighton anyway? Every day must be like a holliday!

Birdie I would hate some young whippersnapper to be my boss! Mine is only a couple of years older than me and it depresses me how much more she earns!

Oh I do like prawnies Lara, not so keen on pulling their heads off to eat them though! I know I'm a squeamish Brit!
