You're way ahead of me, PFF, no problem.
While we're waiting, are there any other ways that James' Senior can distinguish between Sky non-sub channels and FTA channels? What can he get on Sky that he cannot get on FTA? This might help us to pin it down.
I still can't see why anyone would replace a Sky box with an FTA-the former are not exactly pricey or hard to come by, any installer probably has a few of them. So my hunch is that it's a secondhand ex Sky Eire box and has a concealed card slot (thank you Spike). Anyone concur?

Assuming macman hasn't already replied by the time I submit this, the EPG is the Electronic Programme Guide that comes up when you press TV Guide on a Sky remote.

No, does not get that as is a free to air box and nothing to do with Sky.

Thanks but it is not a Freesat or Freeview box.

It is a free to air box with no viewing card reader.

So you keep saying, but why can't you give us the make/model?
Are you sure that his previous box was also a FTA receiver and not a Sky box?
You don't seem to grasp that it can still receive the FTA channels and be a Sky box, in other words it's a Freesat from Sky box-non subscription.
If it is a FTA receiver, then it will just need retuning to get Sky News UK version.

But that would have a card slot, my money is on a Free to Air Receiver.;)

OP, can you maybe tell us what brand is on the remote control? Is there a blue Sky button on the remote control?
