Irish Sky News

My grandfather has just had his Lnb and Digibox changed (I think the replacements are secondhand) and Sky News is the Irish version and is all in Euros and Irish companies etc.

Does anyone know how this came about please? Was it perhaps programmed in the secondhand box?

Can't ask the guy who did it as he has gone abroad.

Cheers

Is it a new viewing card? Sounds like your box has been sourced from Eire.
I'm presuming your grandfather is not in Eire?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Many thanks for your quick reply.

    No, he's not in Eire.

The box has no viewing card reader at all. It's just free channels.

If it's a Sky box then it must have a viewing card slot (though you can use it without a card). Are you talking about a non-Sky satellite receiver or a Sky box receiving the Sky FTA channels?
It's been previously regionalised with a Sky Eire card, and so as far as the box knows it's still in Eire.
I think he'll need to get a Sky viewing card (£20 from Sky) which is then regionalised to his correct postcode. Once this is paired with the box it should be OK.
And perhaps speak to the guy who supplied it and ask him to credit the £20.

Thanks but it has no viewing card reader. It therefore has no viewing card slot or card. Getting a Sky card would not help as it could not be read.

Sky News is one of the free channels otherwise it's nothing whatsoever to do with Sky. It's just free channels.

We know very little about it and have never before seen a box without a viewing card slot and wonder how the Irish version got in there.
Was it perhaps programmed in the box?

    Thank you for your help.

So it's just a FTA digital satellite receiver. Nothing to do with Sky?
    Make/model of box would help.
So it should be possible to retune to get the correct regionalisation?

Your Grandfather would probably be better off using a second hand Sky Receiver, that is assuming his dish is focused at 28 degrees east ( ish ) and not 19 degrees east (ish ).

Probably best to wait for the installer to return and let him sort it.

    Thanks.

My grandfather is 84 and has been very upset by this and none of us know much about it.

What we are trying to find out is what is the likely reason for how the Irish version got in there?

I will try and find out the make etc.

Because that's what it's been tuned to-it's a second hand box.
PS: might be worth asking-did he previously have a Sky box (one with viewing card slot, with or without card)? If so, he now has the wrong sort of box!

Indeed, he possibly got it from a seller on eBay etc. from Ireland.

He obviously hasn't re - tuned it, nor has he shown your Grandfather how it works, it seems.

Sorry, I got the wrong story it is the LNB that was secondhand. The box was sold new and cost a lot of money.

The Irish version programmed in there led my grandfather to suspect it is actually a secondhand box.

    Thank you for your help.
