I like the house I am trying to buy but not going to let myself love it yet,
Firstly it will harder should it all fall through for some reason and secondly, it is their taste and not mine and i will change cosmetic things. but definately you have to see potential for you to be happy in it. I think if you like it now in time when it has your stuff in and your stamp on the place, you will love it0 -
I have to say the last two houses I've bought I've always been 'in love' with when I've bought them. But, I'm older now and probably a bit more picky, to me now, a house can have potential and must be in the right location for schools etc, so I'm willing to accept something that isn't quite right but can be with our own stamp on things like tigger says. But, in the past, before children, I always went for the house I loved - sometimes though it wasn't the best choice looking back lol!
purpletopaz - how odd re the solicitors - but not surprising! I too will be using a local one if we ever get that far! The first purchase I didn't and it was a pain. Other legal stuff I've done since I've always used local and it's much easier being able to drop something off etc than have to post. Good luck!0 -
I feel lucky, my vendors are a very nice couple and everything is going well between us, they have now offered me all the furniture for free!!!! as a FTB with no furniture this is mega.
All the furniture for free, wow that is mega - well, if you like the furniture - do you? lolSmile though your bank is breaking:)0 -
The EA wanted us to go with the same as the vendors. Dont think they are up to much!
Purpletopaz - didn't think you were allowed to use same solicitors as your vendors - conflict of interest (unless that is scottish law only). Really pleased for you that the end is nigh. Don't know about you but i cannot now get excited until I get the keys - probably all the messing about. Went by the house today and tenants are moving house - makes me more angry and now wondering if i can report the vendor aka solicitor for the the other side for bad practice to law society (obviously after i have keys and am in the house lol)Smile though your bank is breaking:)0 -
HI All
Surreybased, must admit, even though the house we are buying needs updating and decorating I do Love it, I immediatley felt right at home there and and a good feeling inside, and even though its a smaller garden that we wanted and not a semi it felt "right" if that makes sense.
Bit of a dilemma for you but seems like you have doubts about this house,
Astara = hope you hear good news about the surveyer its going to keep coming up for them whatever so would make sense.
54Druids. My Solicitors said exactl the same as you, initially the other ones ( who the vendors are with ) sent the paper work and said that if there was a conflict of intrest we would have to find another one. So I just called them and told them to forget it. They said to me " a conflict of intrest rarely happens ". I said I am not taking a chance.
I am excited, but not exchanged yet, i will once we exchange I guess this week I hope. just cant wait, Been painting today so all clean for new tenants. Sounds like they have been telling you a few Porkys! Yes Def get the keys and get in first!
Heres to a good week all!!!0 -
54druids, there is nothing wrong with the furniture, and i can replace it as i go and when i save money, this way maybe not my perfect furniture at first but no big spend on furniture to move in!0
-
wow then you really are very lucky, well done - that will save you a packet. I have never heard of anyone leaving their furniture before, I am secretly hoping that my vendors leave the trampoline and the surround, it is still there, even though the tenants have moved out so fingers crossedSmile though your bank is breaking:)0

Got to decide if we'll go over asking. All historcial data shows that the house is at the top of the price range for the area but we've got a good deposit so its affordable for us.
*snip*
Just wondering - I like the house - don't love it but not sure I've felt that about most houses in my price range.
Do you 'love' the house you're buying?
Sounds like the agent is pushing their luck by inviting "realistic" offers then saying only better-than-asking is acceptable! What a load of tommyrot. I suggest you keep looking.
Also sounds great that you don't love it. To fall in love with property is suckers' talk because it is the best gift you can give to an agent/vendor. Toughening up is vital!
The one advantage I think of having rented a few times is that you learn to rationalise what it is to make a space a home.
I would suggest you might regret committing to this since it sounds like a stitch up by the agent. Hold off from making a decision for a week or two and wait for the agent to get in touch with you saying they've reconsidered your initial offer. 20p says this is precisely what will happen!! ;-)
Good luck anyway. Stay calm. Don't be taken for a ride. :-)Long live the faces of t'wunty.0 -
Mortgage offer arrived by fax this morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I assume this means that they valued the property at the price I have offered or more, Im sooooo happy!
Survey result on tuesday......
The vendors are now saying they dont want to pay the 50quid to have land registry CORRECTED as it is incorrect at present! Im kinda surprised, its not very much money in the scheme of house selling.....My sol is gonna try and sort it but i said to Sol if they refuse to pay then i would rather pay and everything correct before exchange otherwise we are not unemcumbered. OOOOOO just had a thought maybe they have to fix it because won't the mortgage be conditional on unemcumbered freehold which currently is not the case.....
Might not have to pay the 50quid afterall
Sorry for the waffling!!0
