Anyone else been charged £38 per time? The article says people have been charged up to £35, but Natwest charge me £38 per time, is this normal for natwest?

I remember one month, I was supposed to get paid on the 26th(but work messed up my wages), I had 2 dd's one on the 27th(£15) and one on the 29th (£7), same as every month. I had £10 in my account at the time. First one bounced, £38 charge instantly applied, second one bounced (only becuase of the first charge) and bang, another charge.

£76 lost in 1 week, my wages that month were only £112! I tried to speak to the bank, they just didn't care "not within my power i'm afraid" - Similar story to ailsajayne29.

If they do pay out though i'm worried they will close accounts out of spite, do you think this will actually happen? I have £2000 worth of overdrafts with them that I cannot afford to pay back, i'd be bankrupt! Asides from that, I have moved address since I wrote asking for my charges back, I've told the bank but I don't know if that will have been automatically forwarded on to all the departments. I hope so.

Good luck - I'm sure a lot of people could be very very happy tommorow!
  • if this ruling dosnt get sorted within 3 months im quitting my job and going on the dole, why the hell do i want to continue in a country that rips you off at every turn...........tax on everything, bank charges(tax), high fuel costs, stupid rules, stupid laws, more tax, invented tax,if its not one person trying to screw you its another,if it aint the bank its the government etc etc etc etc..........this country is not a joke, its incredibly serious for everyone,i call it a joke at times but seriously its crazy insane, what the hell are our politicians up to,what the hell are our banks up to,i feel like shouting but ill wake the neighbours,at the minute im hating this country, really hating it,and its a scandalous load of old bollox that i feel this way because of being screwed by my bank and my government, what i want to know is,WHERE IS THE QUEEN,why hasnt she spoken and told these complete load of jerk offs to put it right.????????? im fuming with rage.
missed direct debit charges, very odd, theres no pain so how come the big gain,i.e £39.00 for a letter
  • It will end in tears. The middle classes will vote Labour out. The landed gentry will be back in power and will restore respect for the backbone of Britain.

RBS has come up twice so I guess I had better break the bad news to everyone. The charges were announced in September, well before the Supreme Court had made their decision day announcement known. I got my leaflet through the door from NatWest last week but it merely confirmed that from October changes HAD ALREADY been made. It's nothing to do with OFT test case decision.

    I disagree with that.

People are angry and have waited a long time for it to only get this far. It's about time the politicians we elected did spoke out about these unfair charges and people openly getting ripped off. It's a big part of an MP's job.

Anger doesn't lead to rational thought and I have said many a word that I should not have said when I was angry.
I believe it is the right course of action that a court decides the issues and to let a negotiated settlement end the case is waving the white flag. Many people are looking at what they do not have and not at what they do have. The DO have interest on their claims at 8% which is better than any savings account, they do have protection from being sued.
What a negotiated settlement could do is make the terms in which people are charged UNFAIR and therefore voiding the contract, and making that contract unfair yet allow the party who done the wrongs to still gain something. That kinda thing would be for me the same as me murdering someone and being given a suspended sentence with a job already set up for me.
We either want a fairer system or we want to wave the white flag.
If you want the white flag approach, then good luck to all of you.

  • I had an email today from Natwest. Apparently they have changed their fee's! It looks like the banks don't think they'll win today which is nice.

  • I've got a family member working for LLoyds so I will be grilling them soon as I get home tonight...
  • I heard the banks were going to charge £2.50 to withdraw money from cash machines if the ruling was against them, so lets all go queue in the banks to get our money out!

Can they, in that case, still impose maximum daily withdrawal amount? Doesn't seem fair that one would have to pay several times over a few days to withdraw all the money.
Saying that, back where I come from banks do charge a monthly account maintance fee, I think it could be around £3-£5 a month. If you go overdraft, there is no big fee, but interests are high for unauthorized overdratft (and you automatically get a small authorized overdraft allowance with the account at no extra charge just in case you need it..)

I got one too and the charges are much fairer. I hope they do lose this case because the refund would be nice in time for Xmas :D I bet the shops are praying too :D
