Well after being stuck for ~3 hrs in the snow on the way home from work last night (central Scotland) my car started running on 3 cylinders and the engine light is flashing
. Earliest I can get the car looked at is Friday so will need to train/bus it for the rest of the week which costs a fair bit.....just filled the tank up too arrgh!
On the bright side just went to buy a coffee from the machine at work and someone left 75p in the machine, so I got a cup of coffee for free and 50p back....nice one5/10/12 : Mortgage Free0 -

Some guys from work never made it home, they ended up coming back and spending the night at work!
I was lucky, was on the M9 (west from Edinburgh) however that was down to one lane and occasionally made it into 2nd gear :cool:5/10/12 : Mortgage Free0 -
Glad you made it home - the stories on the news are bad. Hubbie ended up staying at his office in stirling as all roads not moving last night but he finally made it home today mid afternoon. Im not going anywhere tomorrow as nursery and the school I work in is not open - hope the roads clear by thursday as I think I will be back to work then.MFIT T2 Challenge - No 46

Thats twice this has happened in the year. The car likes a drink of oil (notorious on the 2.0 VW petrol) so need to keep toping up every month.5/10/12 : Mortgage Free0 -
What a couple of weeks. Glad you managed to dodge anything major on the car Jock. How did your thaw go last week? You would struggle to understand what all the fuss was about looking at our street now...just in time for the new burst of weather coming our way this week. Good to see you heading relentlessly into the mid-20's!
Cheers,

Been off the forum for a bit!
Happy new year Billy
Majority of the snow is gone now just the mounds at the side of our drive created by clearing the drive. More is due in the next couple of weeks but managed to get myself a proper shovel rather than use a crappy spade!5/10/12 : Mortgage Free0 -
An update on where we are with the mortgage....
The last fixed overpayment for 2010 came off at the end of December which left us with an outstanding mortgage balance of £25,844.
Back in January 2010 we started the year with a balance of £39,521 so have managed to knock £13,677 off the mortgage during 2010.
This was made up of £6780 worth of monthly mortgage payments (£565 pm) and a total of £6897 in overpayments! This is the first year we have managed to beat our normal mortgage payments with overpayments
The bar graph below shows a summary of yearly mortgage totals over the last 3 years, each year we have managed to increase the overpayments which is fantastic and is making a big impact on our mortgage.
As long as we maintain the yearly overpayment total at around £6000 for the next two years then we will achieve our dream of being mortgage free before the end of 2012.
All the best,
Jock5/10/12 : Mortgage Free0 -
