My DH has his birthday on the 18th and isn't really too bothered about presents (he is 58 this year!!) so it's always been difficult to choose something for him, last year I brought him 2 tickets for a big rugby match (so our son could go and keep him company). This year I have booked a travelodge for his birthday so we get a night away before the christmas hordes descend on us and I plan to take him to a military museum on the Saturday. Today for his christmas present I brought a huge old rusty hay rack I saw in a pet shop for £15. I got it home, wire brushed it, painted it with hammerite and now have it hidden under a sack in the garage. In the spring he can plant it up! Will probably get him a House DVD but small jokey present are just lost on him. One year I just got him a bag of humbugs but he didn't appreciate the joke!!Slightly bitter0

Great thread. I just find buying for blokes sooo tricky!
I really don't want to buy the usual presents this year so this is what I've got so far:
Dad: Winery/Brewery Tour from Last Minute.com
Brother 1: Personalised Apron from: Extra Special Touch Gifts (very ironic as he is USELESS around the house!)
Brother 2: Stuck on this one - he's going travelling but not to loads of places so backpack etc seems a bit unecesarry - any ideas anyone? I thought maybe a travel journal...
Grandad: This is always a hard one - usually get a hamper but this year I've got him a lamp with all the grandchildren on - one side has a group photo and the other has a mug shot of each of them - I hope he'll love it, from Photo Lamps by Emma Tasker.
Thats all for now....0 -
OH's brother has a weird thing I found on Firebox - it's about a foot high and it's got a voice recorder and motion sensor - record your messages and they shall be played as people pass
My dad has two Dr Who audiobooks as he's nuts about Dr. Who, and I'll see what little goodies live on eBay (got him a tiny diecast Davros one year, and he was well chuffed)
OH's dad gets a book about 100 years of Morgans (cars)
OH has an Animal hoody as he barely has any nice ones, and Need For Speed Carbon special edition 360 game. Might get another one, might not** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **
**SPC 2012 #1498 -£152 and 1499 ***
I do it all because I'm scared.

I went travelling this time last year. You could get him accessories? http://www.roamingfox.co.uk/ would give you ideas. Is he slumming it in hostels cause things like sleeping bag sacks and travel towels are really handy0 -
This is a brilliant thread!
So far for my boyfriend I've got:
Body Shop Maca Root Skincare Kit £14
Body Shop Maca Root Eye Serum £9.75 - but got both for £16.62 as they are doing 30% off for Love Your Body Members
2 DVDs from HMV - The Damned United and Revolver - £6.99 and £3.99 but put £7 of toluna vouchers towards this so only had to pay £3.98.
The Little Book of West Ham, £2.99
Still to get:
Pants! He has specifically requested designer undies but that will really stretch my budget of £50. Anyone have any ideas? Figleaves have some offers but still a bit pricey. Wondering if a trip to TK Max might be in order.
Also will get some chocs, real ale and maybe a brandy miniature if the budget will stretch to it.
For Hollies - i saw some nice bits in Muji today that might work for your travelling brother - lots of little travel size bottles, international travel adaptor and cities t-shirts. Can't remember prices I'm afraid as I was just browsing.0 -

A couple of years ago I got some boxers printed for my OH when it was our anniversary - I bought some plain cotton pairs (from H and M) and took them to a t-shirt printing place. I just wanted some text printing, so the lady printed it out, we adjusted the size, font, placement, etc., and then it was done. For two pairs I think it was about 12 euros in total, which wasn't too bad. That was two years ago and the printing is still intact, despite OH using the same wash program for absolutely everything.
If you've got a big market near you, or somewhere like Affleck's Palace in Manchester, there'll probably be a printing place in there.
Alternatively you could get the transfer printer paper stuff and do it yourself - it lasts pretty well.0
