  • My local Asda doesn't seem to have this offer - good thing I have a bottle put by! BTW meant to say in my earlier post that the 2 bottles for £25 was at Tesco.
  • Champagne deals - the good and the bad

"....many of the supermarkets have taken to running so-called half-price deals on their own brands of champagne. Such champagnes have to appear on the shelf of some stores in the group for a set period at the nominal full price in order that they can legally claim to be selling them at half price later. But in reality the special-offer price is far closer to their true value, and with so many good offers around on genuinely well-made Champagnes, these bogus deals should be avoided."

  • Just been to Asda and picked up some champers, some good deals to be had:

    £15 for Moet
    £15 for Tattinger
    £14 for Heidsieck

    That's New Years sorted!

Just got back from Asda this minute, saw the offer and headed straight down there at 5am to buy 11 bottles of Moet and a bottle of Tattinger for my dinner party that I'm stressing out about and can't sleep over.

Everything is marinading right now, fresh food in the fridge just hope it all goes well.

What a let down, Morrison's Ayr
never have the Champagne offer you quote and their wine manager dosn't know what I am talking about.
  • Well i've really missed my champagne since I decided to slim down my spending but have treated myself to a £15 bottle of Tattinger from Asda , may go back and get another for my birthday in Feb.
Love the Sainsburys blanc de noirs so glad it is getting recognition.

Just clicked on the "Discuss" link from today's weekly email about cheap champagne and realised this discussion is a year old.

EDIT: Is there a website which discusses the nicest easily-available champagnes for Christmas this year?
  • Morrisons in Dundee and Perth sold out of the Taittinger but loads of the others available. Unfortunately the Taittinger is the only one worth buying, even at this price! Moet and Lanson - so acidic!

I spent a couple of quid more and bought a case of Gremillet Brut NV online from a local shop, Aitkens - am I allowed to post a URL? Multiple medal-winning champagne and great value, not a big name admittedly but excellent nonetheless.

The Lidl one has also won a lot of plaudits.

Don't forget that a bottle of champagne pays UK VAT & Specific excise duty.

Even with the current level of the Euro making everyday supermarket offers on the continent un-competitive, when it comes to drink those of you living in the South East should be able to more than pay for a day out in Flanders/N.France.
If you club together with a mate and take a big car you can qualify for a volume discount that will pay for the ferry.
You can check French supermarkets for similar lost leader offers on Champagne.

However, pre ordering with these people can mean only spending half an hour shopping and you can pay in sterling using your cheque book.

If you need to avoid tax on tobacco products and diesel then popping over the Belgian border is probably worth the effort.

Throughout November Laithwaites wine is selling all champagnes & sparks at 20% off. Some good cheap deals there! Bolly is the champers of the year and that's discouted.

One champers is only £14.99 - Haton.

I've bought from them for years and never a duff bottle...
