Windows problems! STOP recommending Linux

Options
I get that it is a case of each to their own. People hate Microsoft as a matter of course. Microsoft has very much a monopoly on PC use. The majority of software available is designed to run on a Windows platform. Just about everyone who has seen a computer has experience windows in one form or another. Computers to the uninitiated are complicate tools that only need to do what they want and nothing more.
So why do people keep recommending a form of Linux to people who wouldn't have a clue as to what to do with it. If people can't drive you don't tell them to go and try flying a Helicopter( very difficult by the way) do you or try driving in the continent.
People come on here to ask advice on what they have and know, stop confusing the issue by suggesting the unknown.:T

may not have been put in the most elegant way, but agree with the sentiment :)

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

    Surely the title should be,

Windows problems! STOP recommending Linux and Apple.
    Move along, nothing to see.
  • I agree that recommending Linux does not really help anyone. However out of curiosity, OP, what do you think about telling someone who uses IE to change to Firefox or Chrome?

Mac OS is based on Linux. However I would say that at least Apple is main stream for users if their design, media or video inclined. Before 'Leopard' shoots me down ;)
Linux is more a I want to be clever and not use Bloated Operating systems.

I personally see that as an application change rather than a whole new way of working. It might still confuse people but most people only type in web addresses and surf.
OS platforms change the whole way of using a computer.

Quite often I would recommend people who are having web browsing problems to try Firefox or Chrome in order to isolate the problem to browser or otherwise. I do this as diagnostics rather than an attempt to drive people away from IE, and I am quite prepared to help them fix IE (if it is IE) once the problem has been isolated.
The same could be said for trying Linux to diagnose a hardware/OS problem, but Firefox is a short download and simple install, with a similar interface to IE, whereas downloading a Linux distro, burning an ISO to disk, setting the correct boot order, and then understanding what to do with it, is way beyond what many people would be comfortable with - and can often just cause confusion.

As good as Apple is.... the thing which turns me off more than anything is the amount of Fanboys.

It's as if they recruit users like the Hitler Youth or come kind of Cult!!

Agree about Linux, it's mainly for experienced users who want to play with something new more than it is for everyday users.

It's a little more complicated than that.
