I use some sea salt, a bit of oatmeal, a tiny bit of honey and some olive oil. Mix it all together then rub all over. It is very moisturising and exfoliating. I have done this about once a fortnight since I was 12 (read it in a magazine) and have never felt it to be drying.
I suppose you could use baby oil or any type of oil really instead of olive oil.0 -
Hi
I read somewhere that used ground coffee is good for exfoliating the body with, apparently models/celebs use it for cellulite. Has anybody tried it?Debt @ LBM - £25,722 Debt now - £11,811 DFD - April 2012

I've been following a moneysaving, kind-of-old-style routine for a while now. I has evolved... I don't do complicated, so it has really simplified over time. I have oily skin. Here's what I do -
Morning - shower: no shower gel, just a pea-size drop (I have short hair) of simple, sulfate-free shampoo (I use Suma). Don't need a big lather, just enough to cover all the hair and once I rinse it out it goes to all the areas I may not have reached. After shower, I only towel off the hair. Still wet, I put a tiny bit of natural Shea Butter as a facial moisturizer - onto the wet face, with wet hands. Seals in the moisture. Then the rest of the body with coconut oil, same thing - on wet.
The coconut oil can be pure, or sometimes I'll add essential oils, which is simple to do - just put the jar of coconut oil into hot water, it'll go liquid, then add the essential oils. An all-day fragrance.
Evening: I don't put stripping cleaners on my face. Water is enough (I use mineral make-up) and every other day I add a few drops of olive oil: massage onto wet skin, then keep washing off with warm water. Once a fortnight or so I'll use Epsom Salt mixed with olive oil for a scrub, but go gently.
My oily skin has never been so clear - I would often get breakouts - and felt so nice all day.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I was wondering whether the cheap version of Bio Oil could be used in replacement of caster oil in the oil cleansing method?0

There's a book- An ABC of Natural Beauty Recipes, by Dian Dincin Buchman- which is a treasure trove of ideas for skin care, hair care, everything really. I've had it for years and still enjoy the face mask recipes in particular. Think you can buy it on Amazon.0

I'm also using the oil cleanising method at the moment and have noticed an improvement in my skin...sort of 'glowy'.
Another good tip is to fill the end of some tights with oats, tie the top and pop it into a bath. The oat milk helps to soothe dry skin.

Back in the days when I was young and gorgeous (lol) I dated a pharmacist. He told me to use cold water on my face, and Vaseline as a moisturiser. As a student, he had done lots of research on expensive moisturisers and subsequently had the idea that none of them were as effective for the skin as simple water, and petroleum jelly.) I have to say, I have followed this simple regime of cupping tepid water over my face for a few mins in the morning, and applying Vaseline (at bedtime only - it does give you a shiny face under makeup!!) I don't really use anything else, and 47, I am often told what nice skin I have.
Anyone want a pic? LOL!
Worth a try, as a pot of Vaseline is not too expensive!
EDIT: The pharmacist boyfriend did not last long. Probably due to going to bed with a permanently shiny faced girlfriend, glowing at him in the dark at night. LOL! Actually, it sinks in quicker than you would think. Hubbie certainly doesnt seem to mindLife.

My OH has a problem with his scalp getting 'scaly' in one particular patch, a bit like cradle cap in babies, or maybe psoriasis.
A friend who is a hairdresser says to use olive oil daily so I was wondering about any tips for maybe a home made hot oil treatment??
However, as I'm writing this, I've looked on wikipedia and it says not to use oil as that encourages the problemand to maybe use Vaseline?

Hi
I have this and didn't find Nizoral worked for me. What does, however, is Oilatum shampoo. It isn't cheap but you only need a tiny amount. It can sometimes be found in Home bargains at £2.99 for 50ml.
My life is so different since using this :j0
