Second the oliatum suggestion - I get this from time to time and oliatum sorts it out no problem. I don't think oil will help with this to be honest, he'll just end up greasy and flaky which is not attractive (and I should know!)0

thanks all. I explained this all last night (without the oilatum bit - sounds excellent - cheers) and just got 'I want to use oil because I think it will work'.....ahem.....anyway, he experimented with a bit of Vaseline (oo-er) which I don't think will do much.
I've told him he has to go and buy some shampoo, but that means him 'going to a shop and possibly asking for help'.........bit like men and directions really"Stay Wonky":D

Hi BB, can't comment on DH's probs but
.
My baby had the worst cradle cap ever. It was a thick yellow crust that semed to form almost overnight.
I smothered it with Vaseline and massaged gently, and left, shampooing next morning. It went and never returned.
Nothing to lose!0 -
My elderly Mum is having the same problem. Her scalp is covered with a thick white 'crust' which itches and drives her mad. The doctor prescribed Betnovate Scalp Treatment which has had no effect whatsoever.
I shall tell her about the Oilatum shampoo - thanks very muchI let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
cheers Mutter. I'll see how he is later. I looked for the first time last night and it's quite a big, white almost 'crumbly' patch, kind of if you form an 'o' with your middle finger and thumb size.

ouch - oilatum is dear! I've just read through their website and I think that is what he has - scalp psoriasis - it really fits exactly.
I've sent an email asking if they do any sample sachets of the shampoo to try it out."Stay Wonky":D

I know oliatum is expensive but you don't use very much so it lasts for ages. And it does really properly clear the problem up. I'd say just buy it if you can afford it at all!0

I'll get OH onto it.......he can open his wallet for this purchase

Hmm. Son had the same thing, flaky scalp, (didn't help he dyed his hair almost black last year in an attempt to look like his hero from Metallica. He actually looked like Elvis.)
Anyway..talking about home made, and always looking to save a bob or two, I made up a mixture of almond oil, menthol shampoo, (tea tree?) and calamine lotion! Smelled like shi*t, (but no worse than the flat he lives in) and it worked.
Calamine lotion and tea tree helps the 'underlying cause of itchy, flaky scalp conditions, with menthol to give a cooling soothing effect with rapid itch relief'
No harm, and it's cheapLife.

Bring it on! :j0
