Computerwoman....
When installing the WG111T go to the netgear site and download the newest drivers. Install them including the utility (you cant do it any other way).follow the instuctions and plug in the adapter (it wont connect). reboot. when comp restarts take out adapter and uninstall the utility and drivers from control panel and then reboot again. When comp starts again just insert the Adapter and let windows install it automatically. This will then install the drivers without the utility and Vista will manage the connection and all should be OK
Basically the main things you will need for vista will be a good Graphics card, and memory. I have heard that both Nvidia and ATI will be releasing 512MB DirectX 10 cards along side Vista. Although no pricing is available It will probably be the usuall stuff with them being around the £250-£350 for the first few months then drop. These are the cards that will make the difference and give you the full speed DirectX 10 Vista compatible games (the xbox 360 games for example)
CPU wise It is said a 2.6Ghz or above would be enough to run all aspects including the new Vista games as Direct X is now geared towards taking a lot of the processing from the CPU and onto the GPU and it will use all aspects of the graphics card to full advantage including memory. It will look toward system memory as an added bonus to increase frame rates beyond what it needs.
Memory stays the same theory as usuall.... The more the better but it will run happily on 512MB ... again This wont really effect the games specifically geared for Vista/DirectX 10 but might slow down old Direct X 9 games.... I recently saw someone on this board saying that Vista will require at least 2GB to run games... I happily play San Andreas, Sensible Soccer 2006 and Commandoes Strike force on my Beta Vista using Beta drivers and all with just 1GB of ram and using direct X 9.0 -

Good to see someone with good attitude.. You tried it admited defeat and went back to your old system without complaining. Thats what its all about, having a go but knowing your limits. OS betas have to be the worst to try. Sorry we couldnt get it working for ya.0 -
Poppycat wrote:I put Vista beta 2 on this evening and it lasted all of a few hours. The OS couldnt find drivers for my network card (built into mobo Asus P4P800 deluxe, gigalan network card), couldnt find sblive drivers, no epson r300 printer support, Epson scanner not found, but I would expect that as its a few years old now) so pc couldnt go on net anyhow. Only driver I managed to find was a Nvidia video card driver for Vista.
I couldnt find the drivers on another pc on net as no vista drivers excist, so poor show. I had far less trouble with a beta xp many years ago.
Your network card IS supported. You use the win server 2003 drivers. SBLive drivers are found by Vista when net connection is made, epson drivers for server 2003 should also work although there has been some mixed response to this. You dont need Vista specific drivers to get hardware working. Most of the time server 2003 or XP will work. I have an HP PSC 1350 and Vista automatically installed drivers for me. A bit of a relief as HP own drivers use 350MB HDD space0 -
Thanks but I dont have win 2003 server only xp pro. I think its pretty poor show on MS when they dont support a popular lan, sound card, or printer. Not much good getting them online via windowsupdate as OS couldnt get online without lan driver, and there no support via Asus web site for Vista as I looked before getting rid of Vista.0

Give it time Poopycat im sure a later beta release will come up trumps, Is it worth getting in touch with Asus to see if they are going to release any Vista compatable drivers.0 -
Thanks thats what I will do Quincy. I was only testing it anyhow so no real loss although it would have been nice to actually find some use even if it was to surf net.
I stick with XP and when I will upgrade soon hopefully the new hardware will run better on Vista.
Just now the confusing time, what to get, or shall I wait until the new Intels come out in July.
It will be a home built pc btw0
