People can do part time courses while on JSA if they agree to give up the course if a job comes up and clashes with the course.

I can't see he needs to say he is committed to looking after the children forever!

It is perfectly feasible to be looking after his children while he is job seeking and his ex partner working!

How on earth can that be a problem if it is on the understanding the pwc will sort alternative childcare if he finds a job?

In addition to this, at least he has a chance of finding a job if he is looking...if by chance he finds a full time position you could give up your job.

he has them 3 days of the week so 42% of the year, there are 5 kids, let him claim the child benefit for 2 of them and that way he can get financial help so can the op for the other 3 kids

Since when did 3 working days of around 8/9 hours each, or 24-27 hours a week out of a total 168, equate to 42%?

He does not have them overnight!

The OP has them before and after the working day! She has said he cannot cope with more than that.

The person in receipt of child benefit is supposed to be the main carer - having them 3 working days a week does not count, or most child minders could claim child benefit!

caz I posted this on the parenting board but its 50 pages back now - have you looked into getting a part time live out nanny (or even live in you had the room) if/when ex oh finds a job? As I understand it, you can get ofstead registered nannies ad can then claim up to 80% of costs via tax credits as you would if using a nursery etc but in your case this would poss be less expensive (and simpler) than a complex arrangement of childminders, after school clubs etc .

just throwing a suggestion out there, also the op didnt say he definately wouldnt do more of the childcare just a tbh i dont think he would be able to cope , well being in a couple and then seperating not everyone adjusts to being a single parent, especially considering the op has said he is fighting with depression
and when it comes to the hmrc and benefits with seperated parents anything goes as my husband and his x has found out
