Can't understand why the board guide did not step in straight away in response to dmg's post."All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke)

thanks for all this there is more to the story lol!! he is willing to look after the kids whilst i work but TBH he couldnt do it 24 7. i had to get a job as he lost his and when on benefits he was put on course after course to find a job. there was nothing available and every job he applied for he was turned down due to being over qualified. i managed to get a PT job on minimum wage and cannot do any more hours due to ex being unable to look after 5 kids, cook and clean.
Unless he can go back to college and retrain then there is not much chance of him finding work and i thought him looking after the kids would be better all around?
i need to look at every avenue before i can make a decisionWhat's for you won't go past you0 -
If he doesn't find a job then he is at least getting as much benefit as he would if on IS. And he may well manage to get some training too. What's for you won't go past you0

I think you are stuck between a rock & a hard place.
Its a silly system we have that penalises you for wanting to work:rolleyes:0 -
I can't understand why he can't claim JSA...?
You say he'd be looking after the children but that in itself is no barrier to him seeking work.
What's the problem? Have I missed something?
If he is looking after the children 3 days a week then he is not available for work 5 days a week. JSA only pays for you to be available for work. Can't understand why the board guide did not step in straight away in response to dmg's post.
If you read the thread then you will find that two board guides did respond to dmg's post. We are not however not allowed to delete or edit posts uneccessarily and we try to leave threads open in the belief you can all play nicely  I thought that the posts answered the questionYou are all free to report the posts using the abuse button at the side of each post though.

Why will he not leave? Do you own your house or do you rent it? You need to go to the CAB and get a better off calculation but I am pretty sure you will be better off on benefits as a single parent then you will be working. Sad but true and certainly not your issue!! I realise that this is not currently a custody battle but if he is refusing to leave the house at this juncture, divorces are rarely amicable and my only point was that you want to protect yourself and your children, so I would take advice before you go splitting child benefit and putting care of your children into their Dads name. I am sure there is a lot more to the story - there alwyas isFree/impartial debt advice: Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) | National Debtline | Find your local CAB0 -
I did read the thread. It seems that some people are gently chided for abusive posts while others are regularly cut off mid conversation for much less!"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke)

he has carried out every training course inc a JCB 360 course with them but these courses are of no use if there are no jobs at the end of them?
That's as may be, but that doesn't mean he cannot claim JSA!
Surely, 'no jobs' is ideal for you at the moment as he gets something to live on and can look after the children while he carries on looking?
If he is over-qualified, why not leave some of his qualifications off the application forms?
Tbh, he cannot claim IS unless he has the children, so he will have to go onto JSA anyway!
There is absolutely no need for you to give up work at this time so I can't understand why you are even considering it?0 -
If he is looking after the children 3 days a week then he is not available for work 5 days a week. JSA only pays for you to be available for work.
People can do part time courses while on JSA if they agree to give up the course if a job comes up and clashes with the course.
I can't see he needs to say he is committed to looking after the children forever!
It is perfectly feasible to be looking after his children while he is job seeking and his ex partner working!
How on earth can that be a problem if it is on the understanding the pwc will sort alternative childcare if he finds a job?0 -
It seems a particularly civilised "separation", and given that there are five children involved, wouldn't it make more sense to carry on being a couple? You don't come across as being unable to stand the sight of eachother any more.
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe
