Thank you - it's a bit shocking really when I think I'd have probably just binned the lot as normally my head is in the clouds thinking of the 1001 I need to do.
Not any more though:jLight travels faster than sound - that's why you can see someone who looks bright until they open their mouth.0 -

Well done!! Now compare how much you would normally spend on food for the week, to how much you spent this week, I bet there will be a big difference!0

Certainly is.... by my rough calculation it's saved me about £50, based on the fact I would have thrown all that out and replaced with exactlly the same stuff! Plus it means that for the next few days evening meals are prepared just to re-heat when I get home from work and I have loads of soup for lunch at work.... so all in all a very worthwhile exercise.Light travels faster than sound - that's why you can see someone who looks bright until they open their mouth.0 -
:T Well done BonandDom. I have started doing this as well. Have you thought of joining the Dont throw food away challenge. They are very inventive with their left overs.I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order

Well done:T you can be proud.... we are having a meal of leftovers today as well........0

Nice one!
Been trying to do more of this myself, quite often we have say a single portion of a meal leftover-6 of us so not always 100% as too how much of something will get eaten DS is 13 and some weeks eats for england and others just picks lol.
I used to shove them in the fridge and sometimes they would get eaten for lunch next day, but often sat and ended up thrown (although sometimes they went to the cats or the chickens dependant on what it was so not always totally wasted). I have started putting the leftovers into single portion sized pots straight into the freezer. As they are already cooked they can been cooked in the microwave straight from the freezer and cover lunches or those nights when the kids all want different things, or too tired to cook. Sort of homemade ready meals.
I do sometimes do a large amount of say stew/spag bol to freeze half for a whole family meal another day, but the single portions are handy.
Also froze things like leftover sauce from a snag casserole-would normally have piled loads of extra sauce on the plates-alot which would have been left or thrown out. Froze this tasty sauce for another day-mostly stock/toms and seasonings all the snags and most of the veg were served up.
Also been doing a sort of cupboards and freezer. Found enough shampoo/bubble bath/baby wash/shower gel etc to last the rest of the year so will stop buying offers on these for the moment. Realised I have shed loads of meat in the freezer-portions of chickens I bought on offer whole and portioned up myself, gammon joints/beef joints/whole chicken/ a duck?/a phesant etc etc most yellow sticked or on offer so starting to incorperate these into meals.
Defrosted a portion of chicken thighs and stripped the bigger chunks of meat for yesterdays homemade chinese "takeaway"-thanks to the recipes on here we had s & s and a sir fry/chowmein thing, was yummy and fed us 6 and DD1's 2 friends who loved getting the chopsticks out lol.
The bones would normally have gone to the bin, but there is quite a bit of meat left on them so will cook them up today. At the least will get some nice chicken stock and if there is enough meat on the bones maybe some soup or pie filling.
Going to check out the don't throw food out challenge thread.
