Well my supplies are running low and I had some lemons and some wholemeal flour that I needed to use up... So here's a recipe for lemonade and bread (that doesn't need yeast)... Granted they're from the internet though.

    Lemonade

    Ingredients

    • 1 3/4 cups white sugar
    • 8 cups water
    • 1 1/2 cups lemon juice

    Directions

    1. In a small saucepan, combine sugar and 1 cup water. Bring to boil and stir to dissolve sugar. Allow to cool to room temperature, then cover and refrigerate until chilled.
    2. Remove seeds from lemon juice, but leave pulp. In pitcher, stir together chilled syrup, lemon juice and remaining 7 cups water.

    Bread Without Yeast
    • 3 cups whole wheat flour (preferably stone ground)
    • 4 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1 1/2 cups rice milk or 1 1/2 cups water (works with any liquid)
    • 1/4 cup liquid fat (i.e. melted milk free margarine, vegetable oil, olive oil)
    Directions:

    1. 1
      Mix dry ingredients.
    2. 2
      Do not sift the flour!
    3. 3
Mix liquids and add to dry.
    4. 4
Stir until there is no more dry flour.
    5. 5
Depending on the humidity of the air where you live you may need a little bit more or less liquid.
    6. 6
The dough should be moist but not sticky.
    7. 7
It may take a few minutes for the flour to fully absorb the liquid, so don't rush to add liquid or flour to it.
    8. 8
Score lightly the surface in a diamond or X shape to prevent splitting of the crust.
    9. 9
This is a country style bread that should be sliced thick.
    10. 10
It is important not to overwork the dough.
    11. 11
Shape into a ball or an oval, with oiled hands.
    12. 12
      Place on clean baking sheet.
    13. 13
Bake for 40 minutes at 400F.
    14. 14
Variations: Rub the dough ball with virgin olive oil and sprinkle sea salt and oregano for a foccacia flavor.
    15. 15
For tea time add a tsp pure cane sugar.
    16. 16
The liquid can be replaced for orange or other fruit juice if the bread is to be used for teatime and you can even add dried chopped fruits.
    17. 17
For a savory bread the liquid can be tomato juice and you can add chopped sundried tomatoes to the dough.
    18. 18
Sprinkling of seeds in the dough or on top of the bread is also possible.

Wow thats awesome! Inspires me to think that little bit more with my food wastage

It has me too. That's brilliant OP. I've been very, very guilty of throwing out food that's started to go over. I really need to knock that on the head and be more creative with what's in my fridge. I'm determined that this year, I'm not going to eventually end up throwing good money in the bin. I WILL NOT WASTE FOOD!

See, now I've got you all as my witness, I dare not fail!

    Well done.
  • Well cant believe i have only just found this thread!!!!

Sooooo useful. Still plowing my way thru all the posts so sorry if these are duplicate recipes but thought i would add them.

    Baked Bean Shepherds Pie

    Pack of minced meat,
    Tin of baked beans
    Potatoes
    butter/marge
    milk
    Grated Cheese

-peel and chop potatoes (might just be me but i quite like mashed potoato with the left on), then boil till cooked. Mash with butter and milk (as you would for normal mash)
-While potatoes cooking, cook mince in saucepan (i always like to drain the fat off) add beans and mix. Tip this Mixture into a casserole dish
_ top with mashed potato then sprinkle on grated cheese. Either grill to melt cheese or place in oven to melt cheese and heat thru.

This is my MIL's recipe, i HATE baked beans but husband and sons all LOVE this dish and is fairly easy especially as we quite often have ingredients. i make one for myself with a little mince then add cooked onions/carrots/mushrooms whatever veg i can find and a little thick gravy then top with potato in same way.

    Tomato Baked Chicken

Tinned Chopped Tomatos (or chop up whole ones)
    Chicken Breasts (or portions)
    Cheese
    Bayleaves (optional)

-Really simple. Tip tomaotes into casserole (oven proof) Dish,
    -Place chicken breasts in tomatoes
-Place a bayleaf (or two) on top of each chicken breast. (optional)
-Bake in oven (as per instruction for chicken) You can cover with foil (liquid may evaporate if in for a long time or very hot)
-take out about 10-15mins before end. Remove bay leaves and cover each chicken breast with a slice or two of cheese
    - return back to oven (without foil) alowing cheese to melt

I have added sweetcorn and broccoli to the tomatos as wel as the chicken which also tastes nice. I have also served this with, potato wedges/chips and veg, Pasta, or couscous and veg. Would priobably work ok with rice too. My husband and i LOVE the chicken like this. It always comes out so moist and succulent as i find baked chicken can be a little dry.

    Hope these recipes help someone.
Thanks so much everyone else for the ideas. Loads and LOADS of great recipes to try and still have loads of pages left to read likely to take me a good week or more.

cauliflower cheese with fried cabbage and bacon bits? Sounds yummy and easy to make enough for tea tomorrow too.
  • I would probably do jacket potatoes with cauliflower cheese and savoury cabbage

    Savoury cabbage

    700g cabbage
    25g butter
    2 rashers bacon, chopped
    1 medium onion, chopped
    Pinch nutmeg

Shred cabbage finely, discard hard stalks.

Heat butter in a large saucepan

Add bacon, then all remaining ingrediants. Cover and cook very gently for 7-10 mins, shaking pan frequently. Check cabbage is tender.

Just what I was going to suggest too :)

I would probably add some garlic to the shredded cabbage and bacon as well.

ETA: Tracey's idea sounds absolutly yummy as well.

I would make that into a risotto. Bacon sliced up, cauliflower chunked up, sliced cabbage with a bit of sage through it, yummy x
Can't think of anything smart to put here...

i was thinking some kind of cauliflower and pot curry, but that doesn't solve the fact you have bacon and cabbage.

    found this
    http://www.kitchenist.com/cooking/pasta/deliciously-half-baked-cabbage-and-cauliflower-cannelloni/968

this could handle some cabbage and bacon in i think
