    POTATO ONION & BACON HOTPOT

Tried this and it was absolutely delicious - even if I say so myself! As I had to use up some leftover parma ham, I made another using that instead of the bacon - again very tasty. Thanks again, Hippeechiq.
You're welcome hun - glad you enjoyed it :) I think it tastes all that better for knowing how cheap it is to make ;)

Are we meant to post what we've had for dinner? I'm always a little embarrassed as mine's never very exciting :o

Well, today I had left-over liver and bacon (my mum gives me parcels of it when she cooks it as my DD's don't like it so I don't buy it), boiled potato and sprouts.

o you post what you like - but it is interesting seeing what others have used up.
Today I've been baking bacon and cheese wraps, sausage rolls and quiches for lunches and snacks. Made 12 mini quiches and one large one Had 10 eggs to use up so had scrambled eggs for breakfast, made the quiches and have made batter for toad in the hole tomorrow, had a half bag of cocktail sausages in the freezer from xmas so they will be the toads, was going to have it today but the girls ate so much as I cooked they didn't fancy a dinner.
I've had a tesco deleivery today but most of it was toiletries and alcohol (got a few parties coming up and tesco had my fav wine on half price) so I'll work out what I spent on food and post on hee tomorrow.
    Night all.
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.
  • Hi, Was just wondering if there is an indexed thread of store cupboard recipes on here, I am heading on holidays on Friday and dont want to buy any groceries between now and then, I have loads of tinned tomatoes, soups, rice pasta etc in the cupboard, and some frozen potato wedges, peppers, sweetcorn and peas. would really appreciate a few recipes to keep me going. In the fridge there is parmesan, cheddar cheese and some streaky bacon and two eggs.

I am having left over stew tonight so only three dinner suggestions.

    Please help

I have a ham hock in my slow cooker, on a bed of onions, celery and spuds (no carrots left) with pepper and mixed herbs. Fingers crossed it turns out as good at the gammon last week!

I had to go to the supermarket today, spent about £30 but not food human food lol I had to buy cat food (about a months worth) and a pre-wash spray  I also tried myself and the DD's to a magazine each :o

I then had to take my dad back to the supermarket after I collected him from his club -he's disabled and goes to a head injury club once a week. He then decided to buy my love by buying me some extra milk and pizza for tea :rotfl:
I know he only did it because he was buying some beer and he's not really allowed it and obviously didn't want me to moan lol. He still got in trouble with my mum when he got home :rotfl:
  • I withdrew £50 from our food budget and put in my me purse YAH. We are still ploughing away through the freezers. Today we had roast beef and potatoes (from two weeks ago) cabbage from allotment and cauli cheese from freezer. Cooked a turkey on Sunday so have plenty of meat in freezer for curries and a turkey, mushroom and leek pie (have loads of frozen mushroom bought when reduced, sliced and frozen and loads of leeks on allotment). We should be ok until end of month when I hope to defrost at least one of the freezers. This is such a good thread, sdaving me lots of dosh.
  • Its ok to have left over rice but do you know that is can cause alot more food poisoning than most meat. I am a dinner lady and had to go on a food hygiene course to serve the childrens meals. Rice contains alot of bacteria - just thought you might want to know this (appologise if you already do ) spotted bump and didnt want you getting ill for the sake of few pennies.

First time post on this board so hello all!

I had a tidy up of my store cupboard the other day and found 7 different types of tinned beans. So does anyone have any nice recipes for using up any of the following:

    cannelini
    flageolet beans
    broad
    borlotti
    black eye

Got a couple of tins of chick peas too! I thought about a mixed bean salad, but not sure what sort of dressing to use (I have soy, nam pla, balsamic and white wine vinegar and numerous salad creams, mayos etc) but I quite liked the idea of perhapos something more adventurous?

All ideas gratefully received - trying to put forward a meal plan for next week that will require minimal spend!

(Oh yes, in case it helps I have a frozen turkey joint and half a gammon in the freezer too!)
