    Hello EB69 :)

This is a very nice recipe
    VEGETARIAN BEAN CURRY
( Garbazno beans are Chickpeas )

    And this one is divine
    MOROCCAN CHICKEN

If you are using a recipe and reduce the quantities which may mean you use only ½ a tin of any beans you may have in your cupboard or your chickpeas, they freeze perfectly fine too :) Tinned tomatoes also freeze well.

I had this for my tea on Monday, which is also a lovely recipe:

    SAUSAGE CASSOULET
    Serves 2

    OIL
    4 SAUSAGES
    1 ONION, diced
    200g TINNED TOMATOES, chopped
400g TINNED MIXED BEANS (any will do, I use Te$co tinned Three Bean Salad, which contains cannellini beans, flageolet and adzuki beans)
    150ml RED WINE
75ml BEEF STOCK (½ and Oxo in 75ml of water is fine)
1 TSP LAZY GARLIC (or 1 Garlic Clove)
    PINCH MIXED HERBS
    FRESHLY GROUND BLACK PEPPER

    Fry Onion until translucent
While frying your Onion grill Sausages to brown
Slice browned Sausages into 5 piece diagonally and add to translucent Onion
Also add Tomatoes, Beans, Stock & Wine
Add Mixed Herbs & Black Pepper to taste and bring to the boil
Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes

    Serve

A tiny amount of sugar may be added at the end before serving, depending on individual taste and how tart your tinned tomatoes are

I serve with new potatoes, sweetcorn and a couple of hunks of bread to mop up the lovely juices

All three are part of my monthly menu plan every month - hope one of them takes your fancy :)

    POTATO ONION & BACON HOTPOT

Tried this and it was absolutely delicious - even if I say so myself! As I had to use up some leftover parma ham, I made another using that instead of the bacon - again very tasty. Thanks again, Hippeechiq.

Just joined this thread - that looks like the Pauper's Cookbook recipe of Jocasta Innes'. That book is worth its weight in gold. A revamped version is available on Amazon, I have one of the originals from the early Eighties.
I'm going to do a storecupboard home made pizza - I've got a whole salami left over from Christmas / New Year that needs using.

Can I recommend as a great storecupboard recipe Jocasta's Bacon, Apple and Onion Fry -up? You roughly chop all three in whatever quantities you have (I use bacon bits off the market or from the Heron discount freezer chain) and fry gently until the onion is translucent and the apple soft. The bacon juices moisten it and the bacon off the market is often salty, so no seasoning needed. I love this meal, have done it with sausages and a few pears included as a variation.

  • Have only just really rediscovered this board ( having had a quick look last year) anyway please forgive me if this is the wrong place to post but we have just had to get another car and so money is exceptionally tight have made a list of things in my cupboard and we are not going to starve as I have wrote a meal plan have lots of things though that I don't know what to do with so need a few pointers as have loads of red lentils ( any other ideas apart from soup please) aduki beans ( goodness knows where they came from) and gram flour ( think i bought it for onion bhaji) have made lots of things from tinned pineapple thanks to this forum that I would never have thought of before:T so am hoping for some inspiration. Also does anyone think carrot and corainder soup without fresh coriander and just ground coriander or coriander leaf would be ok. Thanks so much

My fav use of lentils is dahl - mushed lentils served with 'tarka' - spiced hot butter poured over --yum with rice or naan

gram flour I use with mashed veg (sweet pot is fab) to make veggies burgers/ patties - its much higher in protein than ordinary flour

    No idea on aduki sorry!

Can't help with the other ingedients however I only ever use ground coriander in my carrot soup.... make sure you add the corainder after you sweat your onions/celery (I like to use leeks too if you have them) to help release the flavour a bit....

  • thankyou both so much thats a great help :j dahl next week as have naan in the freezer and vegi patties another day might serve them in tortillas and carrot and coriander another day
  • I think the worst meal I have ever cooked in my life was based on aduki beans - it was a curry which took hours to make, stank the house out, tasted vile, and left me and the ex creating the most foul odours for a couple of days.... I know I shouldn't blame the poor aduki beans, it was an evil recipe, but I haven't been able to face them ever since.:rotfl:

    Sorry, I know that's not too helpful but I couldn't resist... ;)
