    Engaged since 25/12/2009

Well I was engaged. Until we separated on 8th March :( Here's hoping that having a break will help us solve all our problems. Until then I'm a single mum on a tight budget :(

    I went to the supermarket this evening  . . . .

but only to buy tablets for my daughter's upset tummy :( and her "ladies things", cos neither of them can ever tell me they're running low only that they've run out!

So this is our 3 day of eating out of the freezer :T and I've even written a meal plan :A
  • Okay - I have had a serious look at my finances for the New Year and am finally trying to deal with my chronic overspending by joining in this challenge. I did an inventory of my freezer and cupboards last night and found I had enough in to make meals until a week next Saturday:eek: - and I was going to do a shop tomorrow as I thought we had nothing in..... Anyway tonight I made pork chops with honey mustard glaze (just honey and grainy mustard mixed and spread on the chops) with roasted veg (just potatoes, parsnips and carrots) and for afters I made a sort of apple crumble. I had some bramley apples, flour and sugar but not enough marg to make the crumble topping so I rooted around and found some marzipan (bought loads of the 29p stuff in Home and Bargain just before Christmas). I blitzed the flour, sugar bit of marg and some marzipan and sprinkled it on top of the chopped apples and the kids said it was absolutely lovely! I will need to go to the supermarket tomorrow for milk, bread, salad and washing up stuff but I have £20 on an Asda giftcard so will only spend on that and not use any cash. Going to look at the Aldi and lidl special offers now...

  • We have been eating from cupboards and freezer since Christmas and will manage all next week as well. I made of list of what we had in both freezers and and also tins etc and then made a meal plan. Cooked a beef joint on Sunday, cottage pie Monday and put enough for another three meals in freezer so Im adding to stockpile instead of just getting rid of it. Only buying fruit and bread, we have an allotment so still plenty of veggies and now have a milkman since jan 3rd so got eggs from him as well. I'm hoping to avoid supermarkets for the rest of month.

Spent £4.05 today on milk and bread, still eating from the freezer cupboards etc, and they still seem to be bulging. Will have to buy fruit and veg weekend and maybe eggs but plan to do some baking as well for lunches next week with stuff I already have in. This is working well so far:D
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.
  • This is such a good thread. Makes you look at what you already have lurking in freezers and cupboards. Its amazing what you can throw together with a meal plan. I have decided to go through my mountain of cookery books and try to cook different things using all the ingrediants required which means buying different herbs and spices, quality instead of quantity. We have no children here now so no fussy eaters. Will start with Jamie.
  • Sorry forget you should post recipe, My meals are fairly standard at present hence getting the cookery books out. I made a cottage pie on Monday using sweet potatoes and beef from Sundays meal. Found a packet of quorn mince in bottom of freezer and will make bol tonight. Tomorrow making leek and turkey pie using turkey from christmas , leeks from allotment and condensed chicken soup from cupboard. I still have lots of squash soup in freezer as I grew far too many. I still have some squash in garage, any ideas what I can use these for other than soup? Thanks
  • Hi all this is my first time on the message boards and I found this store cupboard challenge. Skint as always after Christmas. What me and my hubby do before doing the weekly shop is to write down everything in the cupboard, fridge and freezer and see what meals we can make for the family. We then make a weekly menu to stick on the fridge and make sure we keep to it. Not only do you start to use all the tins and stuff you've had for ages but it shows just how much money you waste on food that you don't really need to buy. Try it!
