Store cupboard challenge

I looked in my cupboards & freezer today with the intention of making an inventory of what I have in then thought better of it! I didn't realise how much party food I had in the freezer  There's only me and DD to eat it - mind you the pizza/garlic bread can be eaten another day, and I haven't bought the usual stack of biscuits/crisps/dips etc so the frozen stuff should actually get eaten this year
I bought the party platters from Asda so DD can try some indian/chinese food, if she likes them then I'm making a note and we can try expanding our menus to relieve the boredom

Hi CandyLong time no see
I agree, it does sound great... and I always have a jar of Patak's paste in the fridge too... so I think this will be a future quick meal for me
I deffo need to crack on with a storecupboard challenge....
My freezer is fit to burst... though, I am just about to take out a few kilo's of fruit, to turn into wine
But I do have a couple of shepherdess pies to go in its place :rotfl:0 -
I dont have much in the freezer as I had to rid the freezer when I moved, however I have so many packets and tins of things, so I am going to try to use them up before I buy any more. Easier said then done, as I get obsessed with having a stock. But the new house, just doesnt allow for it. So time to use it up and get me some boxes emptied. (Moved into new house, with much smaller kitchen, 21/12/10.) So I will be joining the challenge and only buying the fresh things I need after consulting the cupboards!
Thanks gizmo111 for the prompt! When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
ok i'm in at least for a month or so (keeping house
)
so we have:
1 chest freezer - pretty much full
1 undercounter freezer - full
1top of fridgefreezer - full!!!
fridge 1- soooo much veg i'm gonna be eating carrot soup for months!!
fridge 2 - overflow so mainly has milk. beer, cheese bought when a good offer is on.
pantry - not so many tins as have been working my way thro them but includes chickpeas, tom's, flour (strong, plain and SR), rice, couscous,
Herbs and spices that would put a restaurant to shame
cereals - about 5 different types not all opened
tin and jar cupboard - small undercounter sized with sooo much in there including the tuna mountain and the cause of the honey shortage
now in my defence we live with family and i have no control of the stock levels normally, i only do at the moment due to holidays.
the plan is to use up most of the chest freezer so i can defrost it properly and then switch out the smaller freezers contents to it to defrost them. then sort the fridges, clean, disinfect etc. do yet another stocktake of the cupboards/pantry and bake treats (once we've eaten up the ridiculous amounts of sweet stuff that is in already)
wish me luck!!

Hello all! I'm certainly going to have to join in on this one - my cupboards are bursting, as are the fridge, freezer and pantry! I've wanted to use up all the lurking packets and bottles for AGES, but I think the problem is not knowing what's actually there, getting frustrated and just cooking something easy/buying more stuff to cook with. I'll have to empty everything out and sort out an inventory, which is going to take forever but I must admit I'm quite looking forward to it!Paying off CC in 2011 £2100/£1692

Last night I made the rest of the about to go off cream into butter which will at least get used. Today I have made scones (using up BBE 02/09 dried fruit and the buttermilk) and opened up a jar of the HM jam mountain to start running that down a little. Dinner will be jacket pots for all - but DH and DS1 are having it with RTC kievs, SS1 with chilli, and the rest of us with cheese that needed eating by 28th.
Need to make myself do the inventory, and stop reading makro special offer leaflets'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0 -
Last night it was hm chilli out of the freezer and tonight it's turkey pie made from christmas leftovers. Couldn't stay away from the shops anymore, I've stayed away since xmas eve, spent £20 on milk, fruit, nappies and loads of whoopsied items, I'm still on budget as I said I'd stick to 30 quid a week.
Happy New Year to you all!0 -

One thing that I've been meaning to try and do, is to cook a pudding everyday. As a child I remember always having a pudding, but as an adult I suppose I haven't bothered due to always trying to be good and lose weight, but that results in me eating enormous portions to fill myself up.
Wish me luck with my pudding challenge.
That really made me think - thank you! I've been doing exactly the same thing since I left home. Portion control per meal is definitely the way to go!Grocery Challenge Jan 24 0/300

Tonight we had cheese fondue which got rid of the last half bottle of not good gallo chardonnay, and some of the cheese mountain. I still need to make a list
I have a bag of chickpeas soaked and cooked so probably humous for lunch tomorrow. Joint of RTC beef out and defrosting . Also found that we have three nicely brown bananananas so muffins from the takeaway secret book will be on the menu too.
The trouble is that I take raw stuff out of the freezer to cook that generates leftovers which in turn go back into the freezer for reheating for lunches.'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0 -
Am going to make a list of what is in my cupboards and freezer and hopefully will be able to make something from what's there :-@ am determined to get my shopping costs down as we are having to reduce our cost of living due to impending redundancy OH"Sealed Pot challenge" member No 1099 2011/£26.00:j
