I'm going to have another stab at this. My cupboards, shelves & freezer are stuffed full (okay some of it is treat party food for new year, but still!) and I really need to use up some things that have been there for over 6 months (I know as I found the online order email with some of it on dated April and another from February :o)

I have plenty of cookbooks as well as this wonderful forum so I'm sure I can clear the more awkward stuff ;)

I can't get to shops but have a freezer full of odds & sods. My son and DIL have just phoned to say they're coming tomorrow so I will need to feed them. All my frozen stuff is in portions sized to feed two of us. I have one lot of stew in thick gravy, and one of pork sausages in gravy. My question is -
can I throw the whole lot in a casserole together and serve it with mash and veg ? That way there would be enough for four . ???

Im sure that you can Mardatha, or you can serve them separately with your mash and veg...give them the impression that you went to great trouble to provide a choice!

Yes it sounds alright to me, failing that, do you have two dishes to cook them in. I oftern cook more than I need* and just put them side by side on the oven shelf.

    * With a view to freezing portions, not wasting it.

I would do the same but i think i would plonk the stew and sausage together in a giant yorkshire pudding with mash and veg optional, kind of more substantial toad in the hole.

I've also got a pack of Aunt Bessies yorkies that we were given by Asda by mistake, we dont eat them. Good idea, I will put it all out in separate dishes and ake them think I been cooking all day ... I am BAD !
and Furball you share the name of my cat :D
  • Can you not bulk both out with another can of toms, cornflour, bit of mashed(fresh or instant) potato stirred in, pulses like barley etc? Make some herby dumplings for on top, vat of mash bulked with onions, serve with the yorkies and whatever veggies you have knocking about?

I'd mix both personally, the best casseroles are the random leftovers ones. Annoying as they are hard to recreate!

Last nights turkey curry was great but Im not so sure about tonights cauliflower cheese, I normally make it with a proper cheese sauce but having a pot of creme fraiche left over ive treid the Jamies 30 min meals method of using that, its in the rayburn oven, will take at least an hour and a half due to Reggie being temperamental in the wind! will post when we have eaten it!
