I have being doing this of late. Doing really well with freezer as need room for Christmas hamper from butchers!
I was doing well with tinned stuff, then MIL gave me two bags full as she's doing her cupboards out, not that I'm complaining about free food. We need to save up some cash and as we have a lot of food in we are going to use this up we do have cash for essentials e.g milk, bread & F&V and the odd extra ingredients to make what we got work!
Tomorrow me & OH are going to do an inventory and I may post some stuff that I need inspirations for!0 -
Inspiration please, for a kilo of carmelised onion sausages and a kilo of bacon. Not just nice breakfasts lol0

My OH adds bacon to Macaroni cheese, tomato pastas sorry no more help, but will watch replies as I have 3 packs left in freezer and TBH sick of macaroni cheese to use it up! I believe in my crimbo hamper we have a lot more coming also!0

pasta sauce with tinned toms? top baked spuds with bacon bits, onion and *shudders* baked beans?
Make up some bread dough, roll it thin and cover half with the onions and cooked chopped bacon, slash the over half of the bread dough and fold over so it looks like a giant sausage roll type thing and bake. Wil be delicious, I promise, very good for lunches.
Improv colcannon mash? Mash topped with cabbage, bacon bits, onions and gravy.
Bacon, bean and onion pies?
Or salad toppingsLiving cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -
Good old Toad in the Hole with sausages??? I am currently trying to run my cupboards down, and am in need of a big shop but trying to eek it out so I don't have to go twice in Christmas week, hence in my cooker is Lamb hotpot has lamb and carrots but no peas/ onions so I found a tin of baby sweetcorn -the stir fry type so have put that in.
I defrosted some mince the other day for tea but there was a change of plan so yestreday that was made into sloppy joes - mince, tin of beans and sauages, dollop of ketchup and chilli powder to taste, this has made 3 portions that I will take to work for lunch with bread buns.
I also have a packet of puff pastry!!!! any inspiration?????? was thinking of something along the lines of tomato puree and feta cheese / ham kind of a giant pizza0 -
ok ta very much, some thing sthere I quite fancy but wouldn't have thought of, Lola, for some mad reason I cant thank you , but I am ! lol0

Use bacon to wrap around chicken breasts (halved lengthways for economy). Place in a shallow dish and half cover with chopped toms, thinly sliced onions and perhaps some peppers. Cover with foil and bake, take foil off for last 10 mins. You could use some sauce from a jar too if you fancy. Great with mash.
Use bacon and one chicken breast chopped up- fried off in a pan with onions, garlic and mushrooms. Make into a pasta sauce with tin of chopped toms or passata. Could get away without the chicken if you fancy it.
Chopped bacon and onion fried until well cooked and use for filling for an omelette just before you fold it in half. This is yummy.0 -
Actually just had that last one ten mins ago !
And I've got loads of chicken in the freezer so will try the first one later in the week - thanks !

Used up some pork ribs from freezer for tea and LO soup for dinner which was from yesterday which used up some broth mix and LO veg.
Tomorrow we'll be using up the rabbit & gammon pie filling from freezer but I'm making a savory crumble topping for that and using up rest of LO veg, if there's any more veg left after that I'll make another soup to freeze for weekend!0 -
Right I'm setting myself a challenge.........we have loads of leftovers and food in cupboards and freezer, so I'm setting myself the challenge of feeding the family, 2 adults, girls aged 18 and 17 and boys 15 and 13 (all with typical teenage appetites!) on just £20 till the 10th Jan. the £20 will cover essentials that I dont have large amounts of such as milk, bread and potatoes, Does anyone fancy joining in?Member 1145 Sealed Pot Challenge No4
